I think you used to be able to play as a skink in older versions, my guess is that they add to remove that option as they added more races as warband got their limitation when it comes to the amount of races, though.

You probably are using a translation, you have to change the language to english if you don't want the vanilla names. :D

I think that if a faction conquest a castle/town then you'll be able to recruit villagers from the factions that conquested it. But i think it only works with the villages

It's not that hard to escaped from these 50+ armies at the start, just try to do a lot of missions (collect taxes for lords help you too much at the start, you can get a decent party with the gold) also the Lords would help you in battle if you're their friend. And these bandits that makes you get rekt shall not be more than "easy exp" getting massacred by your army at late game. ps: sorry for my english it's not my native language
