Game: Paranormal

Slatedragon Blog

I am a person who loves horror games. RPGs too, but we'll save that for later.
My first foray was "Silent Hill", which was the first video game to leave me with gruesome nightmares. "Resident Evil" to me never came close, nor has there ever been a video game since... until now.

"Paranormal" created by Matthew C Cohen captures the essence of horror by creating a small but unique location with which to explore.

Part "Paranormal Activity", part "The Blair Witch Project", and part your worst nightmare, this game led a creepiness factor I haven't seen in a long time. The sound effects are superb, and the idea is solid.

The graphics lack a polished, finished quality that most indie games have, but the horrific creation of this game alone makes up for that.

The story is simple: "The player takes the role of Mattel Clark, an artist who has a haunted house. Mattel decides to film the hauntings with his camera, which is the viewpoint of the game. The player controls the camera as the hauntings slowly but surely escalate into something far worse and more horrific. "

The game is never the same twice. I went through 3 different endings and I believe there are more waiting for me to find.

So to Mr. Cohen, I eagerly await your sequel and give you the greatest nod. You have proven Capcom does not hold a lock in the horror genre for games. Indie developers will soon steal that torch, especially if you one-up what you've done on your next game.
