Hi, I am Syphothis I have been using Moddb for well over 2 years and I am obsessed with HL2 and Ep2 Mods!.
Making A Mod -How Hard It Really Is-
Hi, its Me Sypho and I want to talk about something that I have been struggling with recently and that is managing 15 people, Life and making a mod. I have always wanted to make games as a kid and work for someone like valve or some shit like that and when I found out about the modding community it felt like I was gonna be one step closer to achieving that goal. Little Jimmy wrong. It all started in February 20th 2017 when I thought that I can make a mod... with no actual mod. I had no idea what I was doing and no idea how to make an HL2 mod. I got called out for that and I would like to say thank you all because you guys actually had fucking common sense I lacked that at the time.
Chapter 1: WIP
The original name was going to be called ZenRace that was going to be a direct sequel to Half-Life Opposing Force, I asked for help with making the mod and a guy that I will be referring to as SS actually gave me the confidence to load up HAMMER and give mod making a go. This was the result:
I had no idea what a skybox was and its functionality and you can see this:
Me and SS moved on and I went to look for "helpers". I met a Russian guy that I will refer as Luke.
How he mapped and the story we made really looked like we could actually make this mod possible together we where Glass Software.
Chapter 2: Making Progress
Found out that someone had the same story as me and he wanted to make a mod. Collide is still in my team at the moment and he is a core member when it comes for writing. Luke was making the mod and I was making the story and everything was going well until figured out that what I was doing was wrong.
I was making/forcing Luke to make everything perfect, and I broke him. I messed him up without knowing and I still feel guilty to this day. We then met Boo Studios -That's not the true name but i will be referring to them as that-. They where a group of 20 people that make mods and I gave them Race-X.
Chapter 3: Selling Out
Boo Studios made me change the story of Race-X tremendously it didn't even share any element of the original story and I lost all of my members because of this and Race-X took a 4-month hiatus. Boo promised me too much and I knew it was too good to be true. When I asked to leave they said they would not allow me to use the story that we made up. I decided to make my own group named Rogue Lambda.
Chapter 4: Going Rogue
I was finally getting my act together I changed from a Mapper for a Writer and I thought it was for the best. I made a discord server for my team and now writing and mapping was actually happening, the moddb page was actually active where we showed off all of our W.I.P screenshots. We had VA's, Mappers, Programmers everything we need to make a mod. Now that I have all these resources I don't know what to do next I have done my part. Our team made a trailer of our mod and to everyone's surprise, it did alright, we didn't even show off any of the NPC's, Models nor Voice Acting. I have been inactive for a couple of months and I want to continue this journey and finish this mod.
Its been 3 years on moddb and I am guessing another more 3 years left,
