Ah the beatemup, a genre of game that has sort of faded into obscurity as of late, but reached a golden age back in the days of the arcade which such great titles like double dragon, Final Fight and Streets of Rage, just to name a few. Game design was simple, single player or coop action progressing through various levels punching and kicking your way through mindless goons (often the same recycled enemies) eventually to get to the end goal of fighting the boss at the end of a stage. Often challenging but so rewarding, beatemups remind us of a simpler time when game was not about flashy cutscenes, next gen graphics and a lot of the beatemups had really good soundtracks though. To honour the beatemup genre here is a video I did on my favourite SNES BeatEmUps
