Adlib's Story

Hey guys, it's finally time for another update about Adlib. Today I'd like to share the story behind the game. For Adlib I wanted there to be a light story which helped motivate the puzzle elements and guide the artistic style for the game. Ultimately I decided on a magical/fantasy-based theme. Check out the line art for the storyboard!

So what’s the story about? Well two siblings are visiting their grandfather who lives somewhere remote. Grandpa’s asleep, though, so what are the kids to do? Obviously, it’s time to explore some of the nooks and crannies of the house, which is when they stumble upon their grandfather’s secret library! Needless to say there’s always a penalty for discovering someone’s secret, and in this case the children have found a magic spellbook and triggered a powerful spell!

Introducing Adlib, a First Look

I'm working on a new word game for Mochi's Word Play contest. Today I thought I'd introduce it to you and share some screen shots. I'm interested in getting feedback from the community and especially in finding some people who would like to beta test the game before it's release -- slated September 18th -- and help make the game even better.

Adlib (working title) is a word game which combines the best elements from games such as Bookworm and Bejeweled. Faster paced than it's predecessors, Adlib encourages the player to expand his vocabulary while keeping him on his toes as new letters are pushed onto the board and magic spells are cast. Check out the screenshots below to get a sense of what the game will be like.

Adlib is developed in Flash and will be available both through the browser and as a downloadable using Adobe AIR. I'm really interested in hearing what you think and if you'd like to help out why not sign up as a beta tester?
