Hi. I'm Sortie, and as most people whom hang around here I do modding and mapping. Please be aware that mapping may have the following side effects: * Addiction: It's commonly known longer exposture to mapping may result in addiction. * The No-Draw Syndrome: Lost abillity to imagine surfaces out of view, because they doesn't exist in maps. * Map-Sound link: If you're listening to music doing mapping, after some time your brushwork will remind you of what you listened too. * Etc. We at Maxsi Games does not recommend mapping without consulting a doctor.

Yes, but at a slow pace due to other projects. I intend to do a release of Demo 11 with new content and a number of bug fixes and general polishing. Demo 10 is good, but a bit rough in my opinion and I want to do another release to get closer to the quality I expect from AT. This will likely happen whenever I can dedicate some weeks, or maybe a month, to working on AT. Likely sometime in the next year. I have multiple mature projects and think on a timescale of years.

You have to knock down a turret using gunfire/explosives. That was trained in an earlier map. The gate opens once you knock down a single one. I've made a note to think about what happens if the player doesn't solve it.

Thanks! Demo 10 contains enough clues to figure it out but it is never directly said.

Do you have Half-Life 2: Episode Two installed?

Hi, if you're still stuck: Go back to the tunnel you came from. On the right side door, there's a stair case. Let's call the tunnel level for level 1, and the hospital ground floor for level 3. Go to level 3, hear the music as you enter the hospital for the first time. Entering this location disables a forcefield in case people get lost, to have more paths to the destination. Go back to level 2, inside the small office. Go right, then immediately left, you see a place where pods enter radioactive light, then left again, left down the staircases. Alternatively, from level 2, pull the valve and go to level 1, then you can access a new valve, pull that, and you're there.

You want to end up in a room with two combine engine ball generators and a door. It's a little puzzle to reactivate one when it stops, and then to proceed.

This explanation makes more sense ingame. Let me know if you have more issues. Finally, it's actually possible to crawl through someplace that should be impossible, and you can bypass the whole area. That was a bug once, but I left it as an easter egg.

I like to do the impossible such as releasing stuff entirely unexpectedly on the scheduled release date plus exactly six years. Have fun and do let me know your feedback!

Hello. The latest beta (AT9) has been released for a while. You can fetch it from the website at maxsi.dk/at/. In any case, I had hoped to get the newest beta (AT10) out in time for Christmas, but it wasn't stable enough. I'll get it out sooner or later, when I have some time: currently AT10 is mostly done.

I had hoped I'd get the newest release done in time for Christmas. Sorry, I didn't make it!

Although, the good news is that I managed to port most of the content, and only the last chapter and a map or two is missing. So perhaps I'll make new years.

Hi, I put the download link back on the website. Please note that'd I'd recommend you wait for Demo 10, as it will be an improvement compared to Demo 9.

City 12 is modelled on the real-world city Aarhus in Denmark.

Hi everybody. Demo 10 became quite a mess and its release got delayed indefinitely because school kept me busy, and then focus shifted developing my own operating system.

Good news! I spent the day making the first six maps of AT10 playable. I'll try to get the rest of the mod playable next weekend. Most of the game should be mostly playable, so I just need to put the pieces together and release them.

Good point, but you are actually wrong -- I am using this exact shader for my own project, and it actually does split in red and blue. What you saw was simply a bad screenshot.

It's a screenspace shader, which means it's fully automated. All you have to do is specify the sun angle.

The scene is re-rendered in a render target, but where the world is black (sky is normal). Then this image is radically blurred from the offset where the sun is on the screen. Lastly it is added additively to the scene frame, thus giving this effect.

Actually, this effect is used in another development-wise related project to give a Crysis-like effect when damaged. Of course, I began using this effect for that project (1/4 Life was happy to share) before I knew about the Crysis effects, so now I am working on improving it further. More on that another time.

Cut the crap, boys.

We were going to wait till tomorrow to post this, but we have made a system to render expensive effects, but it's not run on your GPU. That's right. We've purchased expensive licenses from Adobe and can proudly present to you: a system for real-time photoshopping frames. The system is carefully designed so that the frames are fetched after being rendered by your GPU, then transmitted over your internet connection. Of course, this causes a slight lag, but that's why C17 requires at leasts a 20 mbit/s internet connection. Then when our central receive the data, our photoshoppers will process your game frames and apply the needed effects to the image, all this done in real-time. Then we will transmit back only the changes to your original image (delta-encoded), which then will be rendered by your monitor. We're quite excited about this technology, and we intend to post it on the Valve Developer Wiki as soon as we release C17.

I really like the editing of this video. So peaceful, yet so expressive. The faceposing of the characters within also seemed quite realistic.

While it took me a while to figure out what was going on in the Video - it kept my attention, and wow, it looks really cool. I'm really interested in this project, I look forward to playing it :D

Normal valve water is real time too - although they sometimes use cubemap-based water for performance. And the cubemaps are not build on compile, they are build the 'first' time a map is run ingame.

It's open source and written in C++ - Any engines that let you mod using C++ Sources can support most of it.

"So, you hear that, Maxsi? You're gonna get shot. So watch out."

Apart for death-threats - it was a fun surprise to be featured on this podcast. And Maxsi Distribution has been in development for over a year and has been working for over 6 months, way before you mentioned it on this podcast. And the system is free in the first place - anyone can use the system if they provide the bandwidth themselves, unless they go through a simple application process like discussed in the podcast.

It was also surprising to have a private email to matthewdryden qouted, but I don't mind it. ;-)
