You have to use the character’s internal name as defined in descr_strat

In the Main Menu > Options > Video setting > Show Advanced Options, there is a box on the bottom-middle (underneath Grass Detail) for "Campaign Shadows". Is that checked? I just did some testing and found that, if the box for Campaign Shadows is not checked, then there will be no trees on the campaign map - instead, just black boxes where the trees should be.

That’s because the campaign map trees were completely overhauled in the v6.2 Update. Entirely new trees and forests, like in the images found in the article for the v6.2 Update.

No, for a couple reasons. First, the Heishan leadership and hierarchy was not hereditary. It was more so an elected position, chosen from amongst the leaders of the various regional cell leaders. Second, Zhang Fang was never a member of the Heishan and never assumed the mantle of the organization’s leadership - he succeeded his father’s marquisate as a subject of the state of Wei. In fact, once Zhang Yan submitted to Cao Cao, the Heishan effectively ceased to exist. So, all in all, even if Zhang Yan had not become a vassal of Wei and the Heishan still existed at his death, Zhang Fang, in all likelihood, would not have become it’s leader.

You either installed the patch incorrectly, did not select option 2 or 3 (not option 1) from the launcher after installing the patch, and/or you need to disable VirtualStore. I would suggest re-downloading the patch and re-installing it, selecting either option 2 or 3 from the launcher menu, and also following the below tutorial on disabling VirtualStore.

Download the below file and place it in your Medieval II Total War/mods/rotk/data190/unit_models/ folder and allow to overwrite. Then, when you start the mod, select option #2 from the launch menu.

I did a quick test and it appears that save games for 190 campaigns should be fine to use.

EDIT: Fix in v6.2 update

Okay, I will look into it. I’m thinking it may be an animation issue

For a specific faction? All factions? Regular or custom battle, or both?

If the mod was still being developed, then possibly would do that.

It depends on the faction. Either there is no recorded family and/or their position wasn’t hereditary. For example, the leadership of the Liang Province Rebellion was not a hereditary position - several non related people led the rebellion prior to Yan Zhong, then several important members (Han Sui, Ma Teng, Song Jian, etc.) broke away after Yan Zhong’s death. On the other hand, Kong Zhou had no recorded family and when he died his position passed on to a string of different Han officials. In order to make a faction have a family tree, you would need to do some work to the specific faction’s name files, create a family tree for each faction in descr_strat, and also enable family trees for the specific factions in descr_sm_factions. It’s a bit of work and knowing what you’re doing.

It will. A lot of mods won’t work with pirated copies because of the cracked .exe

You don’t need Steam. You only need Medieval II Total War : Kingdoms installed on your computer. When you run the installer(s) for the mod, you point it at your main Medieval II Total War directory.

It happens, don’t worry about it. If you’re going to update, make sure to delete the /rotk/ folder (in your /mods/ folder) before downloading and installing v6.0 & v6.1

You're using v6.1, correct? I couldn't get the save game you sent to load up.

Looking at the log, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary and the last dozen or so lines were just the parsing of trait triggers.

Yeah, I'll need you to do an earlier save and play until it crashes, then send me that log. Also, do let me know exactly when it crashes (during AI turn, which faction, settlement being captured, etc.). To more easily observe such, it would help to remove fog of war and follow AI movement during the turn it crashes.

190 or 194 campaign? Have you used/loaded any autosaves during your campaign? Have you installed the 4GB Patch?

I would need you to send me your log via message. Please visit the following on how to create a usable trace log: Twcenter.net

Ok, I understand now. However I have a few questions:

Is the savegame from yesterday the same version as what you are using today?

Is the savegame from yesterday an auto-save or a manual save?

Is the savegame from yesterday the same campaign as what you are loading from? Example: I run the 190 campaign and make a savegame. I then switch to the 194 campaign and am currently in that campaign. I cannot load the savegame from the 190 campaign while I am in the 194 campaign. I must close the mod, run the 190 campaign, then I can load any savegame that I made in any 190 campaign. The same is true for the 194 campaign - you have to be in the same campaign as the savegame you are attempting to load in order for it not to crash.

At worst, it could be something as simple as a corrupt save, which unfortunately can happen in rare instances.

The newest full version has only been out for a month, so that means you’re using an old, obsolete version. I can’t give support for anything other than the latest versions.

I’m not sure if the messages got jumbled. But if you cannot switch between campaigns, then it is one of three problems. 1) you don’t have administrator privileges and thus the files from one campaign won’t overwrite the files of the other, or 2) you have Medieval II installed in Program Files or Program Files (x86), or 3) virtual store is active on your computer and the game is using the first set of files that were installed.

When you select option 3 for the 194 campaign, what version does it say on the bottom left of the main menu?

I know other Sanguo games have such figures as hidden characters, but this mod is an historical representation of the three kingdoms era, so we won’t be including people that are not from the era.

Someone at TWC pointed out a missing texture assignment for a bodyguard unit for the Xiliang faction in the 190 campaign. Download the link below, then place the file into your .../Medieval II Total War/mods/rotk/data190/unit_models/ folder and allow to overwrite. I tested and you should be able to load your 190 campaign save games.

The fixed v6.1 Update has been uploaded. If you already installed the v6.1 Update, there is absolutely no need to download or install this fixed version as all of the files installed into their correct directories. This fixed update just corrects an issue with the file verifier.

I double checked and if you get the CRC mismatch messages, everything is fine. There is something wrong with the file verification, but all of the files are correct and go to the proper destinations. We'll get the file verification fixed shortly.

Also, the factions are not allied with the Guandong event. Reason being is that Medieval 2’s alliance system cannot accurately represent the reality of the coalition, and also because there was a ton of infighting and bloodshed amongst the participants at different stages.
