Snipers being crap close in is why there's a credit system. You can rock an MP5 as a backup and spank people at close range as well. If you don't restrict unscoped sniper accuracy at close range then you end up with Quake style railguns and it ruins gameplay utterly.

Platforming games are the height of innovation now?

1990 called - they want to know what the hell is going on. Not denying in any way how excellent these games are - Meatboy and VVVVVV are lauded for good reason, but calling them innovative just so you can award them something is a bit rich. I played stuff like that on the Amstrad 20 years ago and just because the genre is undergoing a resurgence in the form of lo-fi flash/iOS gaming does not mean it's innovative. Maybe I'm missing the point a little, but since you're only justifying your decision with a paragraph of press release it seems pointless.

MODDB is a great showcase for the lesser known stuff, but you're not doing a great job of explaining WHY these titles are innovative or what's new about them and the lack of insight into your reasoning cheapens things a bit IMO.

If memory serves, Action Quake 2 first(obv), then AHL, TS, then the Opera. Each had their own approach to the 'diving about wielding two pistols' genre. I'd vote for TS personally, but I'm horribly biased 'cos I worked on it. Slow-mo in a mutliplayer setting was (I think) first done by TS and while it was out it was among thethe most popular HL mods along with Natural Selection and obviously excluding CS and DoD.

The K-11 is just the K2 with a 'nade launcher bolted on, so rather like the OICW compared with a G36. Problem with that is that airburst grenades would be horrendously overpowered. Simulating the fancy sight they've got on there would also be a nightmare. It would be a hell of a lot of work to do on anumber of systems just to get one weapon ingame, so don't really see it as a possibility.

The G11 is pain because, again, it's really hard to balance. Probably more relevant than that is how ugly the thing is. No-one would want to model it (let alone texture it) because it's s heinous looking.

VEPR is a bullpup Ak74, so not entirely unique and original. I think Kane and Lynch 2 had the QBZ in it, but that's pretty interesting looks wise and it uses a fairly unique cartridge.

I personally am not a fan of the Neostead, but don't see any functional reason for excluding it.

These have all been discussed on the official forums at some stage so might be worth going over there to get a more complete set of responses.

Rogues have an MP5SD, the Vanguard weapon is based off a concept that HK made years ago with a UMP style stock and some other changes. Details on said concept weapon here :

Somewhat more on topic - great to see this finally getting finished. Nice job Wesley!

When the game was packed into a zip for the press preview weekend it came in at ~750mb so I'd expect the finished product to be somewhere in that region. Unpacked it's circa 3gb - can't give you an exact figure on that as there's a bunch of development/WIP stuff in my FAS directory.

Correct. You can also merge all your half used mags to give you a fresh full one. There's a skill that decreases the time it takes to this as well as the reload time.

No firm date yet, but we're at the point now whereby we're testing things on a much larger scale and fine tuning gameplay.

Yes, the terrifying banana of death is just a stand in model where the world model for a particular gun isn't complete.
