Still my favorite mod out there and i like to check on progress from time to time!

They had discussed this at one point with farseer but both teams have creative differences and wish to take the mods in separate directions. In the long run this works better for us fans because we will get to have two different experiences to play in the halo universe.

Is it because of lack of people/time?

I've never used their mod launcher but you could use a .bat file. Those have always worked for me.

They aren't dead, and they are still working on this mod but they are understaffed. I'm not sure who the active members currently are other than Dgaius and Bornsteller

As far as I'm aware, Earths Defense Grid was already online and Infinity had already been in production for years in a secret Oort Cloud.

To be fair, they are using an engine from 2006, and I don't think they have a large professional team that most modern game companies have.

They will still exist, as long as Disney doesn't pay off every police force to hunt down and burn every EU book (I wouldn't put it past them). "will continue to be added to" Starwars.wikia.com This was supposed to be the most recent book in the EU and it looks like Disney has pulled the plug on it. :(
