errm... you do know that there is already a mod doing the generals total conversion on RA3 Moddb.com? So why haven´t you tried to join GuNsHiP_MK_II on his mod or GuNsHiP_MK_II yours? I think you could work faster togather than on your own.
On other notes... this looks AWESOME! :) Have you considered making this mod more like Contra mod or even Shockwave mod?
Well... yes, in a way... but once you´ve modded the original generals, you won´t be playing the vanilla version again, or at least, most of us won´t return to plain old Generals, so... what to do? That´s why i´m hoping that the contra team, upgrades it´s mod using GuNsHiP_MK_II SDK as a steping stone :)

And thank you for the comment, wasn´t sure how involved the Contra team was with this project. Hope you manage to establish working relationship, hope your team leader can take the leap and update the mod for a more stable and more powerful engine :)
If not, then it´s just very sad that nostalgia is preventing such a great mod to become something more :(
I asked the Contra team what they think about moving Contra into another engine (for example RA3) and i got a good answer. One from the Contra team (The Coon) stated that he thought this was a good opportunity, he said though that, they weren´t sure what engine would be chosen, but soon, they would make some decision on what will be done?
So, if you (GuNsHiP_MK_II) would like to make your mod more interesting and maybe get a little (big) help with this mod, you could ask to join their team? You have something that they will need and you need someone to help you... see where i´m going with this? :)
I think it doesn´t matter if this mod would be called contra, contra evolution or what ever, i just think that Evolution + Contra would be EPIC!
I haven´t bin here for a while now... did you (GuNsHiP_MK_II) delay the release of RC2, it was announced at the end of this month or 1 of may at least? Now there isn´t any release date, what happened?
I think the oil derricks could give more money than 15 every 1 or 2 seconds, i think it would be better to have them give 50 or even 100 each time as it is hard to defend them sometimes.
Is there any release date yet for Contra 008? Would be nice to have fixed date to look forward :)
This is all good and well, but have you thought of solutions for all the errors (specially "the game has crashed, this could be due to a virus or over heating hardware", or something like that) and lag, that Generals is prone to, not to mention the mismatch errors while playing a MP game?
All the marvels and wonders that you are doing to make the game look more pleasing and improve game play, won´t mean nothing, absolutely nothing! if the game is constantly crashing, needs options.ini fixes or "run as administrator while running compatibility mode windows xp SP2" and all that crap. Though, EA did release a 17 game C&C version and there they have fixed these problems with the compatibility problem, but the game still crashes with the "the game has crashed, this could be due to a virus or over heating hardware" error when i play cyber general in Contra or the AI is cyber general.
Hope you take all this into account when making Contra 008 as it would be awesome to play the fixed version of generals that EA released, without the game crashing into some errors or mismatches (not to mention all the lag).
have you considered moving the Contra mod to Genevo (https://www.moddb.com/mods/command-and-conquer-generals-evolution)? Genevo is not finished and it´s for Red Alert 3, but when it´s finished and it´s open source, Contra would be prime for a "facelift" in a better game engine that is more stable and better MP (much less crashes and annoying errors, if non).
Never mind, i figured it out. The game had some bugs or something and i only needed to verify integrity of the game cache and after that, i could play the mod.

Is anyone having trouble playing this mod on the steam version of red alert 3?
I made the documents\red alert 3\mods directory and made a shortcut to the ra3.exe with the -ui at the end to bring up the UI screen, from there i choose game browser and mods tab, but when i choose to run Genevo mod, it starts to launch but stops loading and drops back to the UI screen. I also tried to go into the steam client and right click red alert 3 - properties, choose there "set launch options" and typed -ui, witch brings up the UI but i get the same problem, browse through the UI to the mod, try and start it, but it always drops back to the UI.
Ok so... you´re 2 hours ahead of my time (and it´s 12:12 pm here), so by all counts, it´s past the release time, but hey... the clock on your website is still counting down, 10 hours left, so tomorrow when i´m knackered after heavy drinking and just want to play games, i hope i´ll be playing Evolution :-p
As i understand it, there will only be core units from the first Generals, if someone wants the Zero hour stuff, he or she will have to make it them self, which is supposed to be "no problem" as this is an open source mod, and if you have the right skill set to make this addition, then yes, it will be "no problem".
The main thing is that, now people who like modding, can make additions to this mod, maybe even reboot mods like; Shockwave, Contra and so on.
Apple is only good if you´re going to make music or work with graphics or for girls who like shiny things that cost too much and only use it for facebook and e-mail. Forget Apple if you´re going to use it in corp environment or as a gaming rig, too restricted!
I couldn´t stop laughing when i was watching Simpsons when Homer got Ipad (or in his case, Mypad or something like that) and when he started the Ipad, Steve Jobs appeared on the screen and was portrait as some sort of devil as Homer had to "agree" to the terms that Apple controlled everything from now on, as is true, considering that you aren´t really allowed to install anything unless apple agrees to it :-p
This is truly a awesome project! I´m looking forward to playing this mod, and it´s long over due for another Warcraft RTS game, even if it´s a mod :)
ok, i´m no expert and this might sound stupid, but hey... is it maybe possible to assign the function of the build console to the Dozer and when the player clicks on it, he is just clicking on the build console, so in essence, the Dozer just becomes a movable "build button" :-p or maybe i´m just misunderstanding the comment, hehe

Ok so... modding is generally a free enterprise thing, where fans make mods for the fun of it, but what if, and yes, i know this is a CRAZY idea, but just go with me here... what if, there was opened a Kickstarter (kickstarter.com) project, where the goal would be to, raise funds to make an even bigger and better mod.
This would mean;
Better art
Better programming
Bigger mod (more units, missions and so on)
Better support for it
Even open sourced
And yes, the mod would be free as the Kickstarter project would pay for the development :)
This project for example, is prime for Kickstarter as it already has a promo video, promo art and so on
Is this illegal? No, i don´t think so. I could invest in some programmers to help me build a mod and release it free, it would be illegal to sell the mod on the other hand. But hey... if someone has some ideas for this, please discuss, that is, if anyone is interested? :)
Will there be aircraft carriers in this mod, like in the general campaigns?
I would hope so. It´s really sad that the new C&C doesn´t have SP for those of us who love playing SP.
But why stop there, i would hope that the fans of Generals would just make their own campaigns, direct their own videos between campaigns and so on. There are allot of talented people out there and it would be allot of fun to see community based campaigns for this mod!
Why mess with something that works (i.e. Generals), did you like C&C 4? I still can´t play that game, i just can´t call it a C&C game. After 9 years, Generals is still going strong and there are still people developing mods for it. I´m not a MP kind of guy, and if EA is going to focus on that, i´m afraid that the new C&C will be dead to allot of us, but like i said, it will bring in another kind of crowd, thous who love MP, and that is fine with me, just marks a new era in the C&C franchise, but that just means that i rely more on work like GuNsHiP_MK_II is doing :)
Well... i´m officially "nr. 1 fan" of this mod, as EA just doesn´t want to quit messing up the C&C franchise! I know it´s old news that they´ve canceled Generals 2 and instead are going for free to play Command and conquer, and as i understand it, they´re just going to support multiplayer for now. I think this will be a big failure for those who just want to play single player / skirmish, but for those who love MP, will most likely register to play like never before, and thus, i´ll be needing / playing this mod more than ever!

How are the buildings coming along? Will there be a map pack with this mod or just up to the community to make one?

Is anyone else having trouble running this mod with the Command & Conquer: The Ultimate Collection? If i install the mod and try and launch the game with the shockwave game launcher, i get the Origin game launcher and i´m forced to launch the original zero hour. This isn´t true for all mods, like Contra and End of days, i managed to launch them without any trouble, but shockwave doesn´t seem to launch with this Origin launcher thing?
