type stopsounds in console to turn off music. A configuration option will be added in the next update.
Also the reason why the ambient music cannot be controlled via the "music volume" slider in the options menu, is because Garry's Mod does not have proper support to play sounds via the music channel. Because of that i have to have the ambient music play through the "game sounds" channel instead.
If you are referring to the Brood Alien breathing sound, no that will not be muted due to the fact it is a decisive gameplay element. There is however a Brood Alien upgrade which mutes the breathing sound which i guess in your case will not be so annoying and also provide you with enhanced stealth

The flashlight battery lasts 20 seconds. It recharges on an exponentially increasing rate based upon the flashlights current energy. For example, when you have 10% power left it will recharge very slow compared to if you have 80% of power left. Conserving your flashlight battery so you can have it when you need it and don't over-drain it so it can still recharge at a reasonable rate is very important. There are also lots of glowsticks which can serve as an alternative source of hand held light or even dropped on the ground to illuminate an area.
I don't know if you've tried nightmare mode yet, but it completely disables flashlights, on the bright side, you spawn with 5 glow sticks.
