Hey,
I would assume you ran into a bug. I just tested it on 2 computers and it Works like it's supposed to. Sometimes the game just bugs the script for some reason apparently. Try to load a previous map save, go to the forest and try again.

When you enter the room through the hatch, the door should unlock. Dont know if you encountered a bug, but I will check it out. :)
