I have had my eyes on MODDB/PSP for some time now. Now that the newest version of Nazi Zombies Portable is here, I believe that there is a need to bring some more thought to the users here on MODDB, on what games are really worth the download.

Slender Files

Game review

When I saw this game pop up on MODDB one day, and saw that the release was very close to its announcement, I was afraid that it would just be a re-map, with everything still wrong. I was even further disappointed to see that this was delayed multiple times. When this game came out 3 days ago, I loaded it up and braced for failure. I had a very bad feeling that the game would be bad.
I was not only proved wrong in my assumption that it would be bad, I was blown away by its MASSIVE improvement over the previous title. Every map is re-done completely, the music within the levels were not only functional, but held up quite true to setting the atmosphere. The flashlight is completely non existent, but the lack of it, along with the sounds, the fog, and the feeling of impending doom, made the game even more immerse than I thought Quake could do. The subtle details placed throughout the game, ranging from the levels, to the overall terrifying message that displays near death, really got me chilled and scared for a while. Not only does this version contain the original Slender map from The Eight Pages, But it contains what appears to be an awesome nod to an awesomely scary Nintendo DS game if it took place in Winter.
What I can say is, the 3 month delay was worth it

Though this game is a massive improvement from the last, it still has some problems.
Framerate issues pop up here and there, and the sounds can be a tad bit glitchy. Not only that, but slender can either pop up and not harm you, or kill you in an instant. Plus, most of the time hes stick inside the floor or the ceiling, which can be more funny than scary.

Although nothing mind blowing like NZP, Slender: Files shows that horror can be done by 4 people, and one 20 year old engine (Without Fouad)

I hope that we see more from Seizure Salid (Or, apparently Gearlock Games) in the near future.

Slender PSP

Game review

This game has potential, and lots of it. As we can see where the developers were going, albeit they nearly failed to get there.

The main factors of the game, Slenderman, a Flashlight, and the Pages are here, but they are all done wrong.
Slenderman slides around, Does not teleport, and will almost always just pop up to be annoying. The flashlight could of been done much, much better, as it glitches up, rarely shows up at all, and does not illuminate as much as it should. The maps are small as all hell and easy to complete, along with the fact that pages are never randomized, and they are all the same.

Although there are several flaws within this game, it still has several redeeming qualities hidden within it. Puzzles hidden throughout some of the levels feel rewarding to complete, although they are very easy and short. I felt very happy to see that I escaped Slenderman in the Quartal section of Hollywood, although all I won was a simple page.

Fouad, if he does have anything to do with the development of this project, Should know that more needed to be done. If the rumors are true that this game was done overnight, then it would make much more sense.

Although not entirely scary, or living up to its expectations, Slender PSP still has enough good in it to make an average game

Nazi Zombies: Portable

Game review

Nearly 5 years ago I was about to throw out my PSP for a few extra dollars, until I stumbled upon this game. Call of Duty? On the PSP? Didn't they blow that idea years ago?
I saw this project grow and evolve to what it is now, with multiple team members coming and leaving, a leader leave, and someone else to take his/her place.
After a few solid years of development, and then an exact year of horrifying silence. Out of the blue, 3 members came back and stated that the mod was still being worked upon. Now, we have this new, inspiring release.

Although this release is small, lacks weapons and multiple maps, It is still more than enough to show that not only a nearly 10 year old system can handle console quality gameplay, but that it only takes 3 kids and a nearly 20 year old engine to do it. NZP Demo is not only fun, but for a while, I was convinced that I was playing World At War again, not Quake. The Graphics and Sound really kick this game away, with gibing, blood, and more attention to detail that I have seen in a while. Although this game is small, it is nearly perfect,

NEARLY, perfect. This game still has a few problems that the developers could of spent five more minutes on fixing, such as some weapons being nearly impossible to acquire from the mystery box (The Ray gun in World at War is easier to get on consoles than the Trench Gun is to get in this game) Zombies attack way too fast, and their AI is still primitive.

A vast improvement that is not held back, even with these small problems, I am glad to say that we can expect AAA quality from NZP in the near future.\
