Hi,

one question: has someone else experienced that the SW Original Trilogy Mod
initial animation and the mod itself is not showing up with fs2_open latest 3.8.0 release on Ubuntu?

On Ubuntu 17.04, with all necessary libraries installed I see that on 3.7.4 version of fs2_open the mod is working but on 3.8.0 I see the un-modded Freespace2 pilot roster.

Do you know how to solve the issue?
Maybe I'll try to have a look and post some debug logs.

Hi,

I've just collected traces about a problem in 3.7.4RC2, normal maps are not working and the details on Ties quadanium steel armored wings will not be visible as per 3.7.2, just planar surfaces.

I'm about to open an issue on fs2_open github,
I just wanted to inform you and the SW OT community.

Hi,

I have good news on the front of the nvidia NV5x, NV8x, NVAx, NV9x, NVDx chipsets on GNU/Linux.

The bug affecting normal maps rendering in the mod has been resolved.

More info here: Bugs.freedesktop.org

I have just checked by installing mesa 11.1.0git using oibaf ppa, with Nvidia 8500GT and now I can see the all models correctly rendered with normal maps.

The correction will also land in mesa 11.0 release planned by september-24th.

Cheers to all GNU/Linux nvidia users that were affected.

Hi, in order to avoid ship classes warnings you should avoid to launch all Campaign missions and use the Single Player missions, except the UNTITLED ones (which are the one wookieejedi said are side-effects).
There is also one Battle of Endor mission which cause a warning on one ship if I remember correctly.
Regarding any ERANGE errors you may see, if you are running in Windows you can click Ok and the missions will start. The problem is only due to particular .ogg file formats, but beside that the beta2 almost all missions are playable (please take a look to Operation Mynock which is one of my favorites).

Hi,

I'm posting to submit a crash problem on Windows XP for SW OT Beta 2 - Operation Mynock.

The first time the mission starts (with ERANGE error -> Ok -> Ok ),
but when quick restarting the mission I get a systematic crash of Freespace2 executable.

This machine ASUS P5B - Core2 Duo - Nvidia 9600 GT

BTW: The game action is fantastic ISD explosion effects seems done by Industrial Light & Magic

The match speed function is an advantage in dogfights, it makes a lot easier to chase other crafts, it was not available in X-Wing

Hi,
I used wxlauncher on both Windows and Ubuntu, as a result on Windows Dl screens are OK and on Ubuntu they don't show up.

I'll came back if I find the problem after some Linux OS FS2 modding readings

Hello to myself!

Problem (2) solved on Ubuntu by changing the name of mediavp subdirectory to /home/<user>/Games/freespace2/Mediavps_3612

The FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.jar creates the directory with lowercase m, but the mod.ini file requires it to be uppercase M.

Little shining cobalt blue Ties to destroy...

Hi,
on Ubuntu I also see this problem, in missions "download bar" screens are not showing up, i.e. files 1024x768_SD_Battle.jpg and 1024x768_X-Wing_Action.jpg do not take the place of original FS2 screens.

I wonder if this could be related to content paths or filenames in Linux OSes

On the other hand I manage to change the images 2_PreLoad.pcx and 2_Preload.tga to the image of the SW Galaxy at the end of The Empire Strikes Back movie and it worked.

(3) Ubuntu/Debian howto

[googled "freespace 2 open Ubuntu 12.04" with GOG Freespace 2 that I found discounted in a weekend, using installation directory /home/<user>/Games/freespace2 to avoid spaces in paths]

[download FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.jar download, make executable and launch]

[install 3612 mediavps by selecting "Basic" PLUS the MV_Advanced.vp which is necessary for SW Original Trilogy Mod]

[Install wxlauncher]

sudo apt-get install freespace2-launcher-wxlauncher

[select game directory, executable and enable Star Wars mod]

[Check for essential i386 libraries, go to installation directory]

ldd ./fs2_open_3.7.0

[you'll get most certainly some libraries missing]
...
libSDL-1.2.so.0 => not found
...
libvorbisfile.so.3 => not found
...
libtheora.so.0 => not found
...
liblua5.1.so.0 => not found
...

[install missing libs]

sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian
sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian:i386
sudo apt-get install libvorbisfile3
sudo apt-get install libvorbisfile3:i386
sudo apt-get install libtheora-dev
sudo apt-get install libtheora-dev:i386
sudo apt-get install liblua5.1-0
sudo apt-get install liblua5.1-0:i386

[At this point everything should be fine when launching mod with wxlauncher]

Bye

(1) When launching BoE mission, there is an error

ERROR: "ERANGE: String error. Please Report. Trying to put into 32 byte buffer: .ogg" at sound/audiostr.cpp:472

Comment: Since it is he same error appearing in Windows (where is it possible to click Ok and continue), it will be probably fixed in SW OT beta3, but I just wanted to highlight that in Linux based OSes it is a blocking bug.

(2) The translucent cobalt blue materials of Tie Fighters are not showing up, even having downloaded MV_Advanced.vp with FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.jar

Where is the mod expecting to find the vps?

Hi,
I tried the mod on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with stock Gallium 0.4 Mesa 10.1 and...

(1) the same "ERANGE: String error" appears, but on Ubuntu/Debian is preventing launching some missions.

(2) strage materials behavior, but not a big problem since we can live with original black Tie Fighters but cobalt blue materials are quite gorgeous! Maybe we can track down the problem.

(3) here is a little howto for Ubuntu/Debian

BTW: have you tried the M (match speed command) when engaging Ties? It will change you life

End of short version, please continue read if interested...

Hi, last doubt about (2): What about the speech in the Tech Room? Is the mod going to speech the descriptions of the vessels and briefings about the mission?
Thanks

Looking forward to next rel to play like a 40yrs old crazy child

Amazing models and effects, really appreciated, wookieejedi you are very talented.

Just as a feedback, my systems Windows XP 32bit and Windows 7 64 bit, there is still an error (1) and another strange thing (2) and I have a question (3)

(1) When launching some missions, for example Endor battle I get this error:

ERANGE: String error. Please Report.
Trying to put into 32 byte buffer:
.ogg
ntdll.dll! ZwWaitForSingleObject + 21 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObjectEx + 67 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
fs2_open_3_7_0.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_7_0.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_7_0.exe! <no symbol>

(2) Strangeness, I launched the mod with MV_advanced.vp missing (partial VPs download) and what I got was missing lucent textures on Tie Fighters, and that's fine, but what is strage is that the speech of Fighter descriptions in Tech Room was working. Is something in MV_advanced.vp preventinge the speech description to work?

(3) The question: has someone thinked/figured how to import X-Wing/XWA/Tie Fighter missions into "FRED", somehow?

I'm looking forward to a Beta3 release to provide further feedbacks.
