Hoping to replay this game and finally finish it.
Looking good so far in my initial testing with your mod.
I appreciate the work you've put in for this game.
We could only hope to get a modern The Thing game.

In your "The_Thing_HD" mod, it might be worth mentioning the in-game save/load bug in the "Read Me". Is that something that is just not fixable? It's minor, I'm just curious.

Without this option set to 1, you can't save from the in-game menu.

I just finished playing through F.E.A.R. & the 2 expansions.
I was using the 4GB patch without the HD textures.

My main issue was freezing and crashing to the desktop.
It would happen during level ends, or level transitions sometimes.
Most of my crashes happened in the base game.
I had one crash in Extraction Point, and one crash in Perseus Mandate.

My workaround was to stop using quick saving & quick loading.
Also, when I would reach a checkpoint in the game.
I would reload that checkpoint to let the game refresh itself.
That seemed to work pretty well once I started doing that.

Glad I didn't mess with this graphics mod as the game
unmodded is pretty unstable these days.

The game is great and playable but really needs a remake to resolve all the technical problems that it has.

Is it safe to assume that this is still too unstable to use for a fresh playthrough in 2023?
I'm going to run this game on my YouTube channel and if it's gonna crash a lot I'd rather stick with old school textures.

@MarioTainaka Thank you for the info.

I just completed the Brookhaven Hospital area and killed the boss, Leonard. I noticed when entering the numbers on the two keypads in this area that the buttons don't make a sound in the game. You can still unlock them they just aren't giving any audible feedback.

Thats pretty gross, I love it. I can't wait for this game. I really wish Frictional would pick Penumbra back up, or remake the originals.

Dropping a thanks for this mod. I am using this alongside "Steam006". Still getting things all configured together to start a playthrough. I will leave you any feedback that I can.

I do have a question for you. I understand your explanation about the pitch/speed of playback due to PS2 hardware being implemented on PC hardware. I am wondering, does this also apply to Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 4 on PC? Would those games benefit from this mod?

Fear: Extraction Point has its own folder "FEARXP" and its own "Default.archcfg". Does it also need to have your "HDTextures" folder and edited "Default.archcfg" in there to work?

I hope you'll reconsider someday with upscaling Perseus Mandate. It would unify and complete the original trilogy. Thank you for the work you have done. I plan to replay through them all soon and appreciate having better visuals.

v0.5 is working very nicely. I played on Normal as I usually do. The Alien's aggression felt good and he showed up when it made sense. I could hear him dropping in the distance too which always made him feel near. Scripted events all played out normally. He came after me in some vents where he never had before in all my playthroughs. Literally scared the crap out of me. Thanks, Mr_Koroshiya.

I've been waiting for this game to get upscaled graphics. Can't wait for this mod.

I just finished a playthrough on Normal using the mod. Gotta say, well done Mr_Koroshiya. This definitely feels to me more like a balanced Alien. The times I did die to the Alien felt fair. All the scripted Alien events triggered as normal, so all good there. I don't have anything negative to say really. No disrespect to the Unpredictable Alien mod, but I appreciate your updated mod.

A few things to mention for possible improvements...

You mentioned that "The Alien is more attracted by player-accessible vents."

I am not sure if you mean he is just drawn to check them out more closely. Or if you mean he is more likely to enter them and follow you. On my playthrough the
Alien only enter one vent and I think it was a scripted Alien drop. He dropped inside a vent I was leaving. So I know he didn't follow me in there.

It would be cool if you could increase the chances that the Alien will sniff locker doors more often. On my playthrough, he didn't sniff any lockers. He was close to doing it but never did. Understandable if you can't adjust that.

I would recommend verifying your files in Steam. Then try the mod install process again. I am using the mod now and am nearly halfway through the game. It is working as intended for me.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I am very interested in trying your mod out. I've played through the game once on normal "unmodded". I found the Alien to be somewhat annoying. I would find myself being careful and quiet, etc. The Alien would still randomly show up too often. In other situations, he would take forever to leave as well. Fun and tense for a bit, then annoying when you're just trying to make progress.

I've probably played the game through with Unpredictable Alien mod "on normal" about 4 or 5 times now. While much better in regards to the Alien being less annoying. As you said, sometimes he can just be nowhere to be found. Which can make it feel like your playing on Easy or something. I have had times though where he did scare the crap out of me randomly.

I'll give the game another go with your mod and let you know how it goes.

I am curious about this too. As I have been using Unpredictable Alien mod for a good while now. Would be interested in knowing the differences or what makes this mod better than Unpredictable Alien. Thanks
