I'm done working on the mod. Everyone has moved from Chaos Rising to Retribution by now and I don't own Retribution. Even if I did, to be honest I'm getting bored of Killteam myself. It also takes a lot of work and I'm doing it all the scripting/modding/"coding" (there's not really much true coding) on my own (though with custom models and maps made by others, my thanks to them).

Making the heroes is fun but the gameplay itself gets stale after awhile and it sucks that I can't do persistent gear or leveling like in The Last Stand.

It's also annoying that even though everyone who plays this seems to enjoy it more than The Last Stand that it will never be as famous as it because it is so hard to distribute or popularize mods for this game.

I understand what you're saying about the lack of Tyranid heroes. It's something I intend to include at some point but there are just some things about Tyranids that make it harder to make heroes for them. Firstly, there's not really a way to make them stand out from enemy Tyranids since you can't really customize their appearance and there aren't any custom models for them. Secondly, when it comes to Tyranid abilities you basically get things related to acid/slime/poison/etc or summoning, so it's hard to design solely around that (though I plan to make one based around exactly this at some point). They also can't realistically fill out some more specific roles, like spell caster or healer like the Librarian or Apothecary can, basically the other races have more flexibility because they have access to technology and a greater variety of psychic powers.

Most of the heroes are space marines and chaos because that's what people tend to like, and the modeler who is responsible for most of the stuff in the mod (he doesn't work on the mod team, he's independent) had a lot of custom stuff for these two races and I tend to make new heroes based on whatever new models he releases.

The Iron Warrior is grey because those are his chapter colors while the Plague Lord is green for similar reasons. I only tend to force colors onto heroes when it's a part of their persona, except for the Relic force commander was mostly just for fun. However I don't necessarily find that coloring a hero a specific color is bad. I intended to let people customize the number of waves awhile ago but because of how the code is right now it would take some work to fix that up but I do hope to get that in sometime. If things are tedious or too easy, you can always up the difficulty. Things become a lot more interesting when you disable leveling, increase hero vulnerability to about 120% and enemy vulnerability down to 80%.

Whoops! That should have said 1.71, my mistake hah (fixed it now). The next version will be 1.72 which will contain the chaplain and angry marine.

It can be played by 1-5 human players, though the fewer players there are the harder it is to play really. It works kind of like the campaign where there's always a fixed number of heroes that get divided amongst the players. So if you play it alone you'll control 5 heroes, if you play with 5 people each person controls 1. If there's two people the first will control 3 and the second will control 2, etc.

Nope, you don't need the expansion.

When you use Steam to make desktop shortcuts it seems to make some sort of weblink now, it didn't use to do that. The easiest way is to edit the launch options in Steam itself as outlined in the read me. The launch options should look exactly like this:

-modname killteam

The read me file in the download explains how to setup the mod and run it. If you're having a specific problem I'd be glad to help if you can tell me what the trouble is.

No idea, but you're the 3rd person to report crashes this week which is funny since the mod has been on the same version for more than a month without a problem up until now. I played two games to completion just a few days ago with full groups and another one just now on my own and I haven't crashed, so I don't know what's going on. Considering I haven't changed any code lately, I don't think it's on my end and likely has to do with Dawn of War 2 itself or Games for Windows Live.

If you crash again, the SCAR-trace.txt and warnings.txt files from C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\Documents\My Games\Dawn of War 2\Logfiles would be useful if you could either upload it somewhere or paste me the contents in a private message.

No unfortunately not. The game was designed to be played with a team of human players and it would probably be too difficult for me to script AI for heroes.

You can but it would probably be hard to control all 5 heroes by yourself. ;) If you're looking for people to play with there's a big Steam group where you can schedule events to get some people together: Steamcommunity.com

The only Tyranid hero I have planned at the moment is a summoner using the ravener model. If you have ideas for another one suggestions are always welcome.

Could you explain how you've got the mod setup? If it's working you'll have the Killteam victory condition available when you host a game.

Dawn of War 2 treats mods a little funny. When you play a mod with a custom victory condition, in this case Killteam, other people without the mod playing the normal default game mode, in this case Victory Point, have their games' mode listed as Killteam in the game list.

If you're looking for others to play with you can schedule an event in the Steam group: Steamcommunity.com

Would the .zip format be more helpful? If so I'll use that for future uploads.

In the meantime here's the download link for WinRAR: Rarlab.com

At the very top you can download either the latest 32 bit or 64 bit version.

If you're interested in this mod take a look over here: Forums.relicnews.com

It's the new mod I mentioned. I haven't put it up on ModDB yet because I'm waiting to have more content before I do. You can find people to play with in the Steam Community page.

I've stopped working on this defense mod as I'm working on a brand new one. In that one I'll be adding the chaos heroes for sure. The enemies aren't just tyranids this time too, so tyranid heroes make sense and I was planning to include them.

The problem I always run into with tyranid heroes though is that I can never think of what kind of abilities they should have. Their "weapons" aren't as fun either as it tends to just be upgraded claws that don't look any different.

There's also only so many different types of abilities that I can create, at some point everything just becomes a twist off an existing ability and I try to avoid duplicates as much as I can. That being said, I like the lictor alpha as an assassin type hero with his stealth and flesh hooks and the hive tyrant as a summoner like he is in The Last Stand so I'll try to come up with something. The ravener alpha totally eludes me though, wonder what I could do with his tunnels hmmm...

Yea, the damage decreasing thing is a function available in the default game code which I grabbed up but it never seemed to work, guess I should have removed it from the options since it's misleading.

I also have to agree that it's not really playable on your own, when I designed it I had full teams of 5 in mind, though if you have at least 3 it tends to work well. In the newer defense mod I'm working on I'll make it more playable solo, probably just by letting you control as many heroes as you would have if you'd had a full team (kind of like how the DoW2 single player campaign works).

I'm also giving more units healing abilities and making "potions" so you don't need to rely on dedicated healers as much, though dedicated healer heroes will of course still be the best at healing.

Answered your private message but I'll put the response here too in case anyone else has the same question:

When you have the mod running you can only play with other people who also have the mod. When you look at the custom games list you are actually seeing people playing normal games (there's a bug with DOW2 where it can show the wrong game type in the lobby list when you are running a mod). Your best bet is to host a private game with some friends who have also downloaded the mod.

Perhaps you could have sent me a private message? You waited a fantastic _12 hours_ before coming to the conclusion that I don't answer any questions, it's not like I look at this page 24/7.

Just posting "the mod doesn't work" isn't particularly helpful either, maybe you could mention what exactly isn't working for you? The mod works with the latest version of DoW 2, which is currently version 2.2.2. Any problems you are having is something on your end but I'd be glad to help you through it.

I have it through Steam so I'm only able to launch it that way so I'm not entirely sure but it seems like that should work assuming all the files are in the right place. Not sure what else I can say. :(

Just checked it myself and it works with version 2.2. I did notice however that some code changes they made since the expansion have made it so that the apothecary heal ability doesn't work on himself anymore. Wonder how many other things broke. :/

Anyways I've stopped working on this one so I won't be fixing up the little things, as long as it runs. I'm working on a newer hero defense with more heroes and enemies of all races that use abilities.

The Chaos Rising patch broke it. I've uploaded v1.07 (should be visible shortly) which is Chaos Rising compatible.

It's compatible with v1.5, so the problem must be something else. Since this mod is still in beta version I didn't package the files as proper SGA archives so you need -dev to run it.

The only thing that I can think of that would make it crash for you is if there was a bad or duplicate file in "..Steam\steamapps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data\simulation" because when you use -dev it uses files from there as well as from my mod.

Another mod you have may be using that folder, so you could try to move it's contents somewhere else for a moment and see if that works.

No, this game doesn't support any kind of AI, it's just for playing with other human players.

I imagine you're trying to open the .sga file with a text editor which is why you're seeing gibberish. You don't have to open/run any of the files, you just have to put them in your Dawn of War 2 folder. Check the readme for instructions.
