hey all. i went ahead and made a script that makes the controls much less bizarre until the dev comes up with a better fix. it requires a program called autohotkey to work (get it here: Autohotkey.com).
once you've installed it, download this script (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-FBf217h2uistoIa8Ck_YbAIN7dy9osE/view) and double click to run it. after that, it's all automatic. it will only start when it detects that the executable for the game is running.
Up is now W
Left is now A
Down is now S
Right is now D
Right Ctrl is now F (headlights)
L is now V (show framerate)
if you end up having issues colliding with other unity games, simply right click the green "H" icon on the right side of the task bar, where the clock is (if it's not there, there should be an expand option to show more icons. if it's still not under there, go into task manager and stop all processes under the name "autohotkey."
