When i installed NTW3 i had DM installed but restored it to vanilla so i could play NTW3 but i uninstalled it later, now when i enable DM the game crashes when loading. (I also had the great war mod but non of its files were in the data folder btw)

it should be both actually. The minor faction could be the Chiss Ascendacy(Galactic Civil War Era and and before) while the Empire Of The Hand ([New Republic Era and beyond] thrawns chiss/human empire in the unknown regions) could be a playable major faction.
If you didnt know the Chiss Ascendancy turned from a minor xenophobic isolated faction into the EOTH led by thrawn with mix of differnt stuff.
