Prototype weapons of WW2
StG-45(M), final pre-production version of this German assault rifle in 7,92x33mm Kurz. It was originaly in the competition with StG-44 but Mauser factory did not match the time deadlines so it was developed as a side weapon. But it showed huge potential which combined with simplicity and low cost led to possibly replace StG-44. It was roller delayed blowback with rate of fire 450RPM. In its pre-production version it is said to be really reliable weapon. New 10 round magazine were developed with it. Some of 30 were made.
The development continued after WW2 in France and then in Spain. From this, the CETME assault rifle came. In 1950s the Western Germany was allowed to build army again so they looked for a new rifle. They selected the CETME as a pattern and their newly established company Heckler & Koch developed their own version - the G3 assault rifle so the design found its way back to Germany...
