New Harbour

MattGuestGames Blog

Spent the last few weeks altering the look of the harbour area in Rubys Diamonds to make it more of a working hub with lots of things going on. Screenshots and more information to follow soon.

After several weeks of deliberation I have made the decision to change from a third person to a first person perspective on Rubys Diamonds. This change hasn't been an easy decision to make but I feel that the direction the game is taking means the a first person view will give the player more freedom and depth.

Update

MattGuestGames Blog

I haven't posted on this blog for a while, but I've had quite a lot going on. So I have listed Ruby's Diamonds on my game section and development for that has been going really well. I have also been working on another title which is very much in the early stages but coming along nicely.

Have now got a number of game titles and have added more elements to the game story as well as some new character development. Have enjoyed writing the story for the game, that actually started out as an idea for a book but I soon realised that it would be far better to interact with the characters and world.

Today I have uploaded my new development video, showcasing some of the game world, please bear in mind that this is very much a work in progress. Please feel free to comment, like or even subscribe to my you tube channel.

Development Video 004

Currently working on the next video which will be an early build of the game, bringing some of the screenshots to life. As with anything I currently post this will be a work in progress video and will not represent the final game.

A new progress screenshot for today, I have tried to place the character in the same place as the last screenshot so a comparison can be made, as you can hopefully see progress has been made on adding some more detail to the town/city, its still a long way off where I want it to be but when I'm juggling family and work, progress is always going to be little by little.

Anyway, I hope you all like how this is coming along and please remember to offer constructive comments, thoughts etc.

Its all in the detail

This screenshot shows off an early image of the main city gates, it currently lacks a lot of detail and the boundary wall is still incomplete, however I wanted to use this as a development style flip book where the changes can be viewed in a development timeline. Please feel free to comment as i'm always interested to know what others think.

City

As a one man team building a believable world for your players seems to be more and more challenging and time consuming, I much prefer an intense day of coding than trying to decide whether a group of trees looks natural.

This is my first proper Development log on this site although the game has been in development for some time. Went to bed a 3 am so quite tired today. I've realized I find creating a living world more taxing than coding, getting a place to look, "lived in" and "believable is no mean feet". If when I post screenshots on the site you could provide constructive feedback on the aesthetics of the game I would really appreciate that.
