Modding STALKER is relatively easy, the coding is simple and the game structure is understandable, except for level design!
As for tools we used:
Paint.NET with plug-ins Photo-shop CS4 3DS max Notepad++ Winmerge
To get started we recommend you refer to these guides/tutorials:

You will also need the data extractor to extract the game files form the archives.
