I hope I don't sound like I'm trying to be mean. These are just thoughts that popped up in my head while I was playing. And I think it's very important to nail a really good beginning and introduction in a game to hook the players.

I have tried the game, however not much of it, and I want to leave feedback regarding some topics:

#Physics
The physics feels very strange when you move close or walk on entities that don't have fixed positions, such as boxes and doors. You slows down or something, and it doesn't feel like any other Source game I have played.

#Level design
I start in an apartment, look around and walk down the stairs. There I find a door that requires a key card. I search around on both floors and try to destroy the windows at the 1st floor with the crowbar without success. After a while I need to check a walkthrough on youtube to figure out where the key card is located. Apparently the windows on the 2nd floor are breakable. Firstly, it doesn't in my opinion make sense that the key card is located outside an apartment at the edge of the outer wall several floors above ground. Secondly, non-breakable windows shouldn't look the same as breakable ones. In good level design you shouldn't teach the player one thing (windows aren't breakable) and then later change that. In HL2 you can clearly see if a window is breakable or not. And for an example, in most games it's almost always very clear what you can break, loot etc.

#Powers
Only some minutes into the game you get super powers. But you never get an explanation to why you have these powers. However, I haven't played much and maybe you are told this later.

#Environment
The environments look very plain and flat. I think there should be much more entities, decals, people and advanced structures.

#Resolution
It feels pretty strange with this ultra wide resolution and the big black bars over and below the game screen.

#The dad
Meeting and killing the dad could have been a very emotional moment. But we don't know anything about him (maybe we should have done a quest before with him or something to establish his personality) and he does already appear to be more or less dead when he doesn't move. We don't even get to see his face.

Ahkey, strange that Desura told me to first install HL2.

Hi!

The installation process seems a bit weird. First, I tried to start the download in Desura, and it told me that I needed to install Half-Life 2. So I downloaded it (I already owned it on Steam). After that I could start the download of G String in Desura. (I don't think it's your fault, but I had to resume and revalidate the download and installation of G String about 5 times because of errors or something.) Finally I was ready to start playing the game, but when I tried to start G String, Steam told me that I needed to install Source SDK Base 2007 before the game could launch. After that I was able to launch the game.

I find it strange that it didn't ask me to install Source SDK Base 2007 from the beginning, since HL2 doesn't seem to be needed. And I also wonder why your piece of news says that 2006 is needed: Moddb.com

I will try out the game tomorrow, but I just wanted to tell that the installation process seems a bit strange. It's probably not your fault.

Have a nice day!

Woho! The clock is almost 3 am (at least here in in Sweden) and I just completed everything in the game. =)
It's a really cool game that brings something new to the table which I myself haven't seen in any other games I have played before. I totally recommend you to try this game out, if you already haven't and if you like point and click games. :)

A really cool game I must say! Thank you very much for making this available on Linux too! =)

Agree with you man. But I actually like that the game is pretty short. I personally find it hard nowadays to get time to complete many of the AAA games that I have once started. So I rather prefer a short game which delivers a nice experience, than a long repetitive game.

I read that they will make HL3 instead of Episode 3. It's already 4 years or something since Episode 2...

There are already tons of platforms which focus on AAA titles (Steam, Origin, GamersGate etc.). What Desura has is (as I see it) focus on mods, indie games and making it possible for indie developers to easily publish games. It's also the only platform equivalent to Steam (that I know of) which also offer Linux games.

So I voted on focusing on Indie games, since I think that you would gain the most out of it.
