Waiting eagerly for this absolute jewel of a mod to come to the beautiful new engine and hopefully be able to do even cooler things mechanically with the additional support, especially the up-coming patch bringing more ship stance/tactics fine-tuning. (Incidentally, my ships never did like using their PD/flak against incoming missiles in the original?)

Theta.Sigma - - 553 comments @ Battlestar Galactica: Fleet Commander

Only posting here as I can't find a forum anywhere (phoenix-interactive.net seems to be down?). I had just two tiny little gripes and one request re: the classic version which I never mentioned anywhere. As always, great mod and this is just my own personal feedback:

1. The Valkyrie-type Battlestars have 3 launch tubes on each flight pod that run down the length of the flight pod and not the side, such that Vipers are launched forward from below the flight pod opening (visible in Media.battlestarwiki.org); I recall the old model in Classic launched Vipers out of side-tubes like a larger Galactica-type or Mercury-class Battlestar.

2. The Galactica seems to be missing a fair few of her main batteries in screenshots, though for all I know this might actually be for gameplay purposes. On her underside there are 4 turrets on the 'front' of the 'nose', 2 turrets down each side of the 'nose' and also the 2 groups of 4 turrets each matching the top. (One can see the full turret layout as of the Battle of Ragnar Anchorage in this image: Shipschematics.net and all these are verifiable in '33' and during the Battle of the Resurrection Ship.)

3. I think I spied Pacifica in the trailer video (it's looking AMAZING, by the way, I seriously can't wait for the release), which looks to give us a wartime-fit Galactica-type Battlestar with complete armour plating across the hull. Will non-mothballed Galactica-type Battlestars be available normally in-game? I'd personally love to see a way of refitting The Bucket to be decked out in full armour and armament as if she had been re-commissioned, but if there are other Galactica-type Battlestars in full combat fit available then I'm going to be ecstatic on release either way!

Thanks!

Only thing I've noticed about FC's Galactica is that it lacks the number of turrets and their layout on the underside of the 'nose' of the vessel. It's not honestly a big deal but the more of this mod I see, the better it gets and it breeds an obsession in me!

(One can see the full turret layout as of the Battle of Ragnar Anchorage in this image: Shipschematics.net and all these are verifiable in '33' and during the Battle of the Resurrection Ship. 4 at the very front of the nose, 2 on each side of the nose, and then the standard 2 groups of 4 on the underside belly)

Eh, can't play a battle against Orks without having every unit effortlessly bombed to death by aerial bombers. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but I can't see any counter...

Hope you're still around. My overwhelming comment on everything is that it looks good, but simply has too much specular all around. Too much shininess spoils the new graphics!

This way delayed due to a very upsetting event in my life, and subsequently me going back to work.

The next version of SD:E will not be due now until after the big Content/Mini-expansion pack that Zero, the developer, will be releasing in the coming weeks - not least because a lot of things will be changing.

This causes a crash every time I try to use it, a minute or so after leaving the mod enabling screen.

- Fresh installation
- Version 1.1
- Sins indicates that its mod path is actually in My Documents/My Games/Ironclad/Sins../Mods-Rebellion v1.1, not in AppData; so it has been installed there. Placing it in AppData doesn't work.

I followed the readme to the letter, other than the exception above...

Steam keys were provided IN BULK to Desura for you guys, if they haven't been issued to you, then there's something wrong on Desura's end. Go contact them first.

If they say they don't have any (which would be patently peculiar), then head over to StarDrive's official boards to query Zero directly there.

Hmm, sadly not I believe. I'd say, wait a month or two, and then buy it - when A) a lot of bugs will be fixed and new features added, and B) the price might even have dropped.

It's really spectacular re: the ship designing, combat, and scope for mods; but it's currently in need of quite a bit of polish. Just had to be released because of publisher deadlines.

You haven't received it yet?!?

1. Ask the Desura support where it is

2. Get over to the forums and PM Zero himself or post in the steam keys thread. Zero provided Desura with a full set of Steam keys that they should have distributed to you weeks ago.

Why can't we add mods to this game? It has integrated mod support and numerous mods released and in development...

Because it's largely rated by the players that are optimistic for its future. I think we'd all agree that it's in an unfinished state and requiring a lot of polish, but the base game below is really quite spectacular...

So the high votes on here are more predictive values, even though it's in poor form for a release version. The devs are continually upgrading and expanding the game for free, though, and the modding community is really strong - but for some reason we can't add mods on moddb for it...

I thought it was DRM-free, to be fair, even the version from Steam.

Were you using the 64 bit patch? If so it needs applying inside the mod folder as well.

V0.4 also old and unrelated to current mod.

It's hard to tell at this angle - but most likely where green turbolaser shots are impacting the corvette's shields; just before the ripple effect (as seen on the front of the corvette) occurs.

For V1, yes. Only because we can't realistically make the content for both space and land simultaneously.

You will be able to play skirmishes between any factions you please, yes, so OR vs. NR is entirely possible.

A Venator is not as strong as an ISD in two respects:

1. An ISD is designed as a battleship; it has more heavy weapons. A Venator is a combined battleship/carrier - so it has a far greater starfighter complement.

2. The Venator has a technology deficit of ~10% - this doesn't mean her weapons are weaker or she has less of them - her turbolasers (bar the specific turrets) will have similar pure energy output to the ISD's, but they are less efficient.

The reason for the latter is simple; if the Venator was as powerful technology-wise as the ISD, why would the Empire phase them out of service in favour of ISDs?

'Commander Cody, execute Order 66.'

Not the best example I grant you, because Cody fails to kill High General Kenobi :p.

This is the night side, hence the vast contrast on the ecumenopolis rings.

The cross-era inequality is *intentional* to reflect the development of better technology and more modern systems. If this proves to unbalance skirmish more than anticipated, it will be fixed to a single level of technology.

As for the ISD bit, you need not worry yourself about such trivial balance issues. These things are all in hand - we do know what we're doing. The ISDs are very much up-gunned; an individual ISD II does have significantly more heavy firepower than the average MC80, but it is more expensive and time-costly to produce.

One must also remember in this specific example that the MC80 (and there are two varieties available to the Alliance to Restore the Republic; the Liberty-pattern and the Home One-pattern) has unique traits of its own - namely very durable shields, and so whilst they can't dish out as much damage as an ISD, they can absorb a lot of enemy firepower.

Theta.Sigma - - 553 comments @ Ultimate Empire at War

It depends what you mean exactly by the question - unlike vanilla EaW, there are no 'matching' ships any more; there is no universal 'capital ship' concept in which each faction has 1 battleship-type ship, so no ships are made to match. MC80s and ISDs are uneven; they are coded into the game exactly as they are, as opposed to being made to match each other.

In this respect, the MC80 and the Venator will be completely different, since each is a very distinct ship with a distinct role; they don't fill some sort of balanced and generic 'capital ship' role in their factions; they are one of numerous ships available that are unique in design.

Now, if you mean the technology gap between eras, there is a technology deficit for the Venator of roughly 10%, as it is 1 era behind the MC80. This is to say that each era's weaponry is roughly 10% more effective against shields and armour, and each era's ships are about 10% more durable. We debated having an evenly balanced skirmish set of ships so that cross-era skirmishes would be roughly equal, but considering the 10% per era difference, I am now of the opinion that the skirmish ships should be left unchanged against each other, so that one can experience the difference in equipment between different eras.
