As John.M says, we have very different goals. The biggest difference is one of the biggest issues with your question - the Silmarillion is not LoTR. As you say, the timeline is completely different, with thousands of years separating the two, meaning cultures would evolve and in most cases be unrecognisable from their later successors. This cultural evolution would be quite significant even if the Silmarillion mod was working from the Peter Jackson style, as the KoA team are doing (and extremely well!), but the Silmarillion team are creating their own art-style for their mod, meaning there is very little overlap between the two teams' work that would make such a collaboration sensible.
