What about the nose, can that be an emitter too? Maybe not Ion, but maybe something less damaging with a faster recharge rate and different colour. That should classify it as "multibeam".

If they have such a hate-on, how about making their reactors built on the verge of overloading? That way when they die, they have a large splash damage hurting those in close vicinity. You know, suicide bombers.
