The point of DayZ are other real people. If you want single-player experience wait for State of Decay (PC, X360), which is being developed since 2010. It's the closest to DayZ you can get in single player in terms of world and survival but also very different in some aspects.

What did you expect?
They listed 137 mods released or updated in 2012 in their "MOTY Year in Review" articles and they didn't mention Black Mesa - one of the biggest and most ambitious mod ever made. Apparently there were 137 more important mods this year - fascinating.

I'm afraid DayZ will win. Black mesa is an amazing remake, but just a remake, while DayZ is a new remarkable phenomenon like Counter Strike or Garry's mod or Dota.

Dino D-Day, Nuclear Dawn and Dear Esther don't use someone else's intellectual property... Black Mesa does. Source license is one thing, IP is another.

Source 2007 is the newest one that modders can use to the full extent.
They just CANNOT update to newer sdk.

My only concern is the new art style (fun theme).
I had much more fun playing Overwatch than Team Fortress 2.
I couldn't get into TF2 weapons feel and movement. I need some pleasure from shooting in FPS - it's quite good in HL2, COD or BF, amazing in Quake 3 Arena but horrible (for me) in Team Fortress 2 or Battlefield Heroes.
I hope you won't be trying to make IA! a combination of TF2 and Red Alert 3 or something like that :(

Anyway, I can't wait for the first screenshot ;)
