Pixel Dungeon

Game review

This is simply a great game, finding it's place perfectly in a very difficult niche - a rogue-like (which by nature must be difficult) which is a phone app (which by nature must be simplistic). And the developer may have even improved on the nature of rogue-likes; often, rogue-likes suffer from "a rock falls on your head, you die" which offer no recourse to the player. However, in Pixel Dungeon, nearly every death can be blamed on the user. I've played roughly a 1000 rounds, with about a dozen wins, and all I have to say is....Kudos!

ADOM (Ancient Domains Of Mystery)

Game review

I have been playing ADOM since toughly 1996, my first year of college, and it continues to consume me to this very day. It is the hardest, most demoralizing game I've ever played - constantly beating me to a pulp and leaving me exasperated - but I keep coming back. The biggest reason for my perseverance is the versatility you are offered with the starting characters. Did your scrawny elf mage get thwacked by an orc chieftain with a nasty crude spear? Come back with a beefy orc paladin of your own and trash them all!

ADOM also offers greater challenges the more you learn about the game. One day, you might be absolutely certain that Alertness is the key to success (it certainly helps against those lightning-breathing dragons!), and the next day it could be something as simple as the Climbing skill that ACTUALLY puts your character on the road to victory.

Much as with any game, there is "scummy" behavior that veterans use to help their characters or simplify the game...but the only things truly necessary for victory are well-developed gameplans, a little luck, and careful consideration at every corner.

So download, quickly, and start your learning curve today! Slay the chaos in Ancardia...and be nice to the cats.
