Creating diversity by using random events is a good idea but
it normally generates instability (Can you guarantee that every possible random event will work?). Sometimes some good planned extra missions to unlock at the end are easier to perform.
Well, it depends on what you've planned.

Changing weather and a day/night circle outside of battles would be nice and
it would make missions on the same map more entertaining.

I think a good transition between town/building areas and wilderness is important, too.

I think there should be some kind of duration.
Else it would imply to use the "sandstorm effect" and simply run around or dodge.
Maybe I am mistaken but those are already relative "complex" attacks.
Wouldn't it be better to begin with "Bodycheck" and "Iron Tail" like attacks?
Leaving the most complicated for later when all other attacks work?
Really like the idea though.

Just an idea: Jump and another key for "roll".
The Pokemon performs a roll and the jump gets cancelled.

thank you for everything you (you and your team) have done until now.
I think seeing only a few images one can tell that it is an ambitious and difficult task you have chosen.
Still, you are doing great!
Having played and watched Pokemon from the very beginning I really would like to help somehow.
I am learning programming languages and I will study soon...
There might not so much I can do right now but I could do drawings for characters (or any pokemon... well only the first 720).
Maybe I could do some bender 3d models soon.
