Yeah i am still in development. Trying to post news every three months, but this summer was a pain due to my new job. There has been a lot of progress made already. I just dont want to release any unfinished crap. But to make it clear: if i would abandon my project (and trust me, i wont. Spend too much time already into it to make it as perfect as possible), then i would put all the stuff on github ;)

However i've got a nice little yet unannounced thing for release this year...

Im highly interested in an almost identical render results. My vision is that the models will look almost identical in coloring and dimensions, when the camera is set to orthogonal and 45degree perspective. This it a required step for some features like a actual calculated collision models, the posibility to trash the map attributes and layers and add real 3d maps which allow things like to drive over and under bridges etc. As the game is highly moddable and will be free to play (no microtransaction and no ads) im speculating a bunch of graphics and sound modules will show up overhauling the assets. But as stated before my focus is to create a nearly perfect KKnD feeling with modern technology.

It might be a better idea not to go the .obj way, i agree on that. But there are some specific things about those models i need to change: Models are split by texture, which has to be merged and optimized. Dimensions and textures are not exact, need to tweak this. Animations are done by simply translating submodels, which has to be redone using bones.

In my eyes your models are the perfect basis to build upon, but there is still a lot to do. For the models: Bunker stuff is actually missing, series 9 is missing infantry, mutants are also missing a huge part. Walls are missing, the mutant temple is missing, the prisons are missing, some constructibles are missing (LTA for example)... And ofcourse all KKnD1 models are missing, as this is/was a KKnD2 remake. This will require a lot of work, which requires me to get a model artist onboard.

But many many thanks for uploading this, as we now have a real basis to build upon on the model-side!

Just a sidenote: I converted all the models to .obj. Sadly that process seem to break a lot of models using the gmax obj export script. I will fix those models by hand. I will also partial edit them to match the exact dimensions of the original games spritesheets. I'll also search for a model / texture artist who will redo the texturing and the animations and also model the missing models as this mod seems to be only about 40% complete regarding the model assets. Oh and btw: Will make sure the models will be 3d-printer-friendly ;)

Sad to see another KKnD Project die. However, as our KKnD (1-2) remake Kknd-game.com is actualy a 3d game, but we only have 2d assets, we will include your models as an alternative gfx-module, which can be used along the 2d ones.

Why did you add shaders and all such things? Just made a diff, only 5 .ini files changed. This might result in fatal crashes in future updates. I would suggest only uploading changed files. Im unsure if you realy need all those things, as you edited network speed and mobile device properties too O.o

However.. can you explain every change, what it does, what it changes and such?

For my part: no. However, im somehow busy with my real-life, but also still working on the core framework which we would need. cameras, units, controls, researching, ui-stuff etc.

Im sure its somehow written here.. first of all kknd2 will be recreated, thats why you see that much kknd2-remade models.. After this is done, also kknd1 units will be included, so you can select which game to play.. at last there will be a full remake with a new race, playing some years after kknd2... but imaging when throwing all generations together for skirmish.. :D could also be fun. While using the udk, its possible to add a whole map-script, so that could all be possible per map theoretically

as for my part: no :D but its such a bunch of work using unrealscript cause of the lack of a good ide with documentation. there are some rudemtary, but you never know what to look for if you dont know all the posibilities, so progress is been made, but a little slower, but its still going on :D

God damn, i just registered specialy for this project! Thats awesome. I was already trying to recreate the 2d games kknd and kknd2 with the openRA engine, and did already a bunch of reverse engeneering to fully read the gamedata formats of both games... but however, developing this game from the ground up again is awesome. if this project wont stop somedays ( like many other projects ), and realy continue till its done ill sign up on your forums (when they exists) and offer you my developer skills to get this done! :) Are you thinking about making it open-source sometimes? or maybe allow the community to help working on the assets?
