Part of the issue is apparently the dev switched from one C language to C++. This would force mods to require a massive rebuild. It seems abandoned.
I'm going to miss it. I particularly liked the ability to delete trash, put a camp fire inside of TM cabin, and save anywhere. I also had a habit of 'converting' things. I'd delete fish oil, and create an accelerant. I'd delete meats when I had too many, and replace them with jerky to give me a preserved food at a cost in lost calories. 1000 calories turned into 350. And I could teleport to the airplane to use the containers as storage, and a cave to drop furs and guts, so wasn't curing raw guts and fur in my home.

For those who miss the crosshair though, there are crosshair overlay programs available. Not limited to TLD, but works on it. I hate the iron sights on this, and I have been good at iron sights in other games. But it is so big, it has no accuracy.

That makes little sense. The dev has made it clear that he isn't opposed to modding, not entirely. Have you actually heard from her, or making a personal opinion?

Suggestion. Have it default to standard instead of experimental. I ran into case a while back where it got into experimental and wouldn't let me out of it until I dug deep to delete a file.

And careful about being too quick o update. I've seen big updates in the past, then then had quick series of patches. We've already seen it with the latest update.

I can't enjoy the game without it myself. Ice walker, able to place a camp fire inside the TM cabin, as I hate the default fire's lack of light.
But also realize it has been a while since anything needed done to it. That will slow down her time paying attention to it.

Just don't rush her. A big update is harder to patch than a small one. New gun mechanics, and more. And the dev of LD isn't exactly telling them where the changes are or how to work with it.

He requires the mod loader to be updated first, and there is a new challenge. The file in the game it works will seems to be removed. Just keep watching, but this could take time.

Actually, it was fresh unzipped and didn't open at all. Never had a chance to set it to test branch.

Creating the folder worked though. Somehow, it was automatically set to test branch.
