So, does this version of Q2XP support proper HDR? I have been using Nvidia RTX HDR for the official remaster of Q2, but will be very interested if this runs in true HDR10.

Textures of this size don't play well with GZDoom. When I started with my pack I was utilizing .PK3 files, and there was constant, severe macro stuttering and freezing at the same points, time and time again. In a file/folder structure, there was NO stuttering at all. The caveat is you must use GZDoom 4.3.3 to use the texture pack. I have the same issue with the Heretic PBR mod. However, I couldn't unpack that mod in a file/folder structure as the PBR effects didn't work, their folders need a different name. In a PK3 file the textures are in a folder entitled HIRES, but to have the textures working in a file/folder structure, the folder must be entitled TEXTURES or the textures will not be loaded.

However, you could download the lite pack, rename the TEXTURES folder to HIRES, compress it all into a .ZIP file, and rename the .ZIP file to .PK3 and use something like Winzip to make the .ZIP file.

Thanks for the tip. All I need to do now is save up for Filter Forge Librarian, so I have all the filters on my PC, and I should be able to get back to work.

I also replaced my old mouse with a Logitech G502 X Pro. I could make a new profile in G Hub and configure the extra buttons to macros for Photoshop, to streamline my productivity.

I am still getting huge stutters at the same points on every level. This is because the files are huge, and compressed into PK3 format.

The same thing happened with my UltraHD Texture pack for Doom. My textures are 2K and in uncompressed PNG format, so I had the same stuttering issues on my pack. Converting my textures from a PK3 format to a file/folder structure, eliminated the stuttering.

However, the directory structure must be different when in a file/folder structure. In a PK3 file the textures are in a folder titled "HIRES", but in a file/folder structure it must be named "TEXTURES". Different folder names are required for the PBR elements, so I can't recompile it into a file/folder structure as none of the PBR elements load, only the textures when I rename "HIRES" to "TEXTURES"

Outsize of the stutters, the game runs at near-constant 170FPS so it's not a performance issue, it's clearly a case of GZDoom struggling to access large files from a compressed PK3 file, and it happens on every version of GZDoom I have tried.

An update. I was close to resuming work on my texture pack. All I needed to do was get the cash for Filter Forge librarian. My PC is in my lounge room and I use it to watch TV through a USB2.0 HDTV tuner, but the other week a storm hit, and my antenna was directly struck by lightning, which fried my HDTV tuner and sent an almighty surge straight into my PC, via one of the USB ports. Although I was able to get it to reboot, it keeps freezing all the time requiring a hard reset, and, according to Event Viewer the issue is related to my CPU (Ryzen 9 3900x), so my main rig is out of action until I have the cash to get it repaired and if I try making textures on my old laptop it would overheat, or it would kill the CPU.

Another day, another setback. Due to losing one of my external HDD's I have lost ALL of my UltraHD texture pack files. All of my .PSD files are gone, as are all the photographic resources I used in my pack. I have to start from scratch, which means many texture sets I had partially completed have to be completely redone from scratch.

When it rains, it pours.

HI. I am a huge fan of your PBR mod for Heretic but I am having performance issues due to the files being in a PK3 file. Is there any way you can do a version where the files are unpacked in a file/folder structure? I had the same issue with my UltraHD texture pack for Doom and when unpacking it into a file/folder structure it runs like butter (constant 165FPS). The folders need to be different names for it to work. In my pack the textures were in a folder called "HIRES" but for it to work in a file/folder structure the folder had to be named "TEXTURES". I don't know what the different folder names are needed for all the materials, so I can't do this myself. I even tried converting the files to JPG files and GZDoom won't start due to an error. Please assist. I love this mod and if you are able to convert it to a file/folder structure it will run like butter on my system.

I also use the lite version of Reikall's Voxel mod (it gives the voxels without the lighting and water effects).

I used this mod and opened it up by renaming the PK3 into a ZIP file, to remove the textures (as they conflict with the HD PBR mod), and keept the HD weapons and sprites, before renaming it into a new PK3. It works like a charm. I hope it helps you out.

Most of the stuttering I was getting was due to 2 issues that I have since identified and resolved. The problems were due to power issues with my PCIE slots/USB ports, and Razer Synapse 3 playing havoc with ALL my games. I also get better performance with OpenGL instead of Vulkan. The only issue I have left is explained in a more detailed comment.

When my bad back improves, I will try to convert and recompile your mod to compressed JPG format to see if that improves things.

I think I know why I get stuttering and freezing on my rig. I ruled out performance issues as the stuttering is happening in the same spots every time. An example is E1M2. When I get the yellow key and move around towards the next door that leads to the curved corridor, where the blue door is to the left as I move through, the FPS drops from 165FPS to 70FPS for about 3-4 seconds, but I can be in a large, detailed room fighting a lot of monsters at a solid 165FPS. With my own mod (UltraHD Doom texture pack), when the textures were in a PK3 file, I had similar stuttering and freezing. When I had the textures in a folder/file system it runs like butter.

I tried to unpack your fine work to see if I could eliminate the stutters, however, only the textures showed up. GZDoom requires different folder names. In a PK3 the folder is either HIRES or FILTER, but in a file/folder structure, it's TEXTURES. Can you please convert it to a folder/file structure so I can try it out and see if it stops the stutter?

If you can do that and it works, I'll let you know and you can do the same with your wonderful Hexen PBR mod. The caveat is that GZDoom versions above v4.3.3 no longer work with a folder/file structure. Thankfully, v4.3.3 supports PBR. 90% of the time my system runs at a solid 165FPS, except for a few seconds at the start of each level, loading a save game and in these certain parts of the game. Once again, thank you for your fine mod. I wish I could do PBR from my UltraHD Texture pack, but don't know how to do it or what programs to use. I use Photoshop and Filter Forge Pro to make my textures.

Thanks. I still get frame drops at random times. However, it can run at 165fps in combat in a large area and tank in a simple corridor with no action, or when I open a door. I don't know what the problem is, but without the effects, it performs much better.

Can you make a HEXENREMADE.WAD file without the particle FX? Like the Heretic mod my frame rate drops significantly with the particles. I am using a Ryzen 9 3900x with an RTX3070. Heretic HD PBR runs smoothly without the WAD file but has issues with brightness a stalagmite that is missing and replaced with Raven's "insert sprite here" sprite. With this mod the WAD is required as the lighting file is in it and I can't edit WAD file as SLADE always crashes when I try to open any WAD file.

Can you post a version of the heretic_remade.WAD without the particle effects? I am getting massive frame rate drops on E2M2 when using the Phoenix Rod, especially in rooms with lots of enemies. Disabling the WAD file makes some lava areas too dark and some of the stalagmites are replaced with the "insert sprite here" sprite that Raven made, which is a red diamond with a yellow exclamation mark. Otherwise, I get a decent frame rate with my Ryzen 9 3900x/RTX3070 rig.

I batch-resized your fine texture pack to 512p for my laptop to run it. If you would like, I can put it on Mediafire and PM you the link and you can put it up on your page. If you accept, all I ask is you credit me for resizing and recompiling the lite version.

My health has declined significantly. My bladder is severely dehydrated and bleeding. My urologist said it's unethical to keep burning blood vessels off and said I need to drink 4L of water a day or I will eventually bleed to death. I struggle to drink water at the best of times, but 4 BLOODY LITRES?!!! I may not live to 50, so I may not survive to finish this mod.

I am still having serious issues with my PC (which is almost inoperable) and am stuck with a laptop that overheats easily, so I still haven't been able to make any textures. I also need to buy Filter Forge librarian, to use Filter Forge in Photoshop. I have no idea if or when I can resume making textures. This frustrates me deeply.

Thanks. I just wish I could have my rig working properly to keep working on it. I am having major issues with my rig and also lost my local filter files for Filter Forge, meaning I have to buy Filter Forge librarian which is in US dollars and the Australian dollar is so weak right now.

I am at my wit's end about my PC and on top of that, I had a severe bladder/kidney infection with one of the most feared bacteria around (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, AKA MRSA). I had to have hospital treatment including heavy pain meds to try to deal with the kidney pain.

I am on the mend now but for the life of me don't know how the hell I got that particular superbug.

Use GZDoom 4.3.3 or earlier. Later versions of GZDoom only accept .PK3 files (which causes GZDoom to stutter), so you need to download the older build of GZDoom to use my pack.

ATM version 4.3.3. I haven't been able to find a way to get it to work on later versions as I got hit hard health-wise and am dealing with a kidney infection and a respiratory infection so I am always short of breath and have a ton of fatigue.

Yes, you need to include the PK3's for Plutonia and TNT and you need GZDoom 4.3.3 for the textures to load.
