Ok cool the difficulty thing might be good, because a lot of mods are special effects and stuff but they are too easy so no gameplay challenge.

When do you think you will be releasing the mod?

Off-topic, I got this idea a while ago about making a mod where you would be playing MP2 levels from end to beginning as in reverse order and change the graphic novels and other things around, but I don't have enough ideas how to make it fun at the time.

Edit: To clarify what I meant, the first level would be the Manor and the last one would be the Warehouse or maybe the Hospital I guess. If I could get around changing the starting point of levels too it would be cool, but reversing how the level plays would require a remake basically.

No, I meant that possibly as early as 2016 you predicted it will be released in 2025. Even back in 2020 it seemed like 2025 is in distant future and now it's right around the corner :P

Hi if you want to help, try importing the Max Payne 3 Sam Lake model (the one published in 2023) into Max Payne 2 engine (so it can be used with this mod later). Other than that there are no active plans (or group) in this project at the moment.

Hi again. You need to put the "data" folder in your case to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Max Payne 2 The Fall of Max Payne" folder, the same one where the Max Payne 2 exe and the mod mp2m file are. The FPS mode and MP2 music folders are different ones. To disable the changes rename or remove the "data" folder.

It functions in a way that the "data" folder overrides the stuff that the mod has when you launch the game so you don't have to make a big mod file for every small thing.

Can't say anything about the MP3 mods because I have only played the game on consoles.

In this case it was easy to change the music files back to Max Payne 2 ones. Changed the main menu and game over theme back too and muted the graphic novel MP1 music. Here's a download link, it works the same way as the FPS mode "data" folder:

I didn't play thru the game with it but I don't think I missed anything big, might try it out later.

Never tried playing on PC with those different controllers, interesting stuff.

Yeah I watched your videos and the audio cuts off in more than one video if I recall correctly.

About the other games, I have never really played any Half-Life games but I remember downloading some Deus Ex mods from this site and enjoying them.

Do you mean like a physical board game?

I was thinking about MP1 levels and Max should more often have some backup even if he's a lone wolf personality. They fixed this in MP2 as he often does have Mona with him or random guys in most of the levels. When they do the official remake I guess they will do something like this, especially the Part 2 where Vlad is okay with Max going to the Ship and the Manor alone and doesn't give Max any soldiers with him to increase changes of success.

About some nightmare levels, I think the Second Vodka and UES levels could be changed around like this Warehouse level, maybe set a different starting point like in the middle of level so it becomes shorter.

I currently prefer this forum format to respond to people actually, don't even have a discord at the moment but maybe in future. But you can DM me here if you don't want to share mod ideas to everyone.

What other ideas do you have in your mind.

Max Payne levels are extremely scripted almost every step of the way so there's that, you can only break so many sequences and still finish the level but it can be done as seen by speedrunners. I think you could still make some mods where your starting point in an existing level is different (like you would start in the middle and go towards the end from there), that would be pretty easy to change.

Not really because I renamed it to bring attention to the first update in +3 years and make it clear that this is the latest full version, also the previous title was more awkward like "1.01 level pack" lol I was anxious to change it.

I forgot to mention that you should have "Fogging" enabled in the setup in case someone has it turned off, because it's one of the new environmental effects. Most outdoor sections have freeze fog in them.

Edit: This is probably a non-issue in 2023, but I just realized the mod will crash when loading levels if you attempt to play with "Low" or "Medium" setup settings. The recommended settings (aka the ones I always use) are the ones you get when you click "High" in the "Reset All Settings To:" box.

Thanks. I made this one in 24 hours because I had some unrelated nightmares myself and wanted to create a nightmare level lol.

Yes that's probably the only thing I haven't seen anyone do yet but you can quite easily change/edit any sound, music, effect, texture, enemy type, some of their behavior etc on any existing level. The methods might be gimmicky but the result works. Technically you could remake any level in the game with the map editor because that's what the developers used too, but it would be extremely time consuming.

I have seen a lot of people creating mods for 20 year old games even recently and people making youtube videos about it, but of course it requires that players search for this stuff themselves. There's also the official Max Payne 1+2 remake on the way and while I'm not holding my breath I will keep an eye on what they manage to do with it.

It sounds like you are using the "Updated Classic" build?
