Here's the Russian Mod Demo Version. Seems great, they have a dedicated team, not just one guy working over time :P
The mod is really good and builds on lots of things. Would recommend it.
the first one most likely
As i said i never took any terrain assets from anywhere, so any that are in game are easily available online through another mod download. You can use any terrain assets for maps in this mod, jut people who download them without the mod wont be able to use them obviously
No reply from GW on the matter.
*Offensive comment was deleted*
^^ can comfirm i am fine with sharing any maps you had for the mod as i didnt create any terrain assets.
As said in the article, I don't want anyone else working on this unless its on complete legal grounds or they remove and replace all assets I had anything to do with.
But seeing as people are already ignoring that wish, what more can I do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
^ yup. Only had some beta testers, but no one provided content I used bar a friend and a guy who worked on skins.
It doesn't link directly, but the princible is the same whether its a free game or a free mod.
Free to use does not mean legal, by any means. Its unfortunate but its true.
GW has the highest authority on the matter, if they say no, I stand down. If they say anything else, however, I can act upon it. Its simply a matter of working out who I need to talk to about it, and if in doubt, go to the boss.
I will put in a request with GW to see if I can use the DOW assets for the mod, and then their word will be final. If there is any light, I will let the forum know. But for now, it is easier for me to take it down.
I'm sorry, Thanks for the luck I think ill need it.
Ah, if you were a member you could have followed it and it would have given you an update when the status was sent out. Very unfortunate on the timing of your purchase.
Do you have an account on moddb?
The way I see it, if I'm expecting to get a cease and desist, I shouldn't be doing it.
If this is the case, fantastic news for them. Unsure if the same thing would happen in this case though, as it does rival DOW 3
I would say that it is probably due to the fact they don't directly compete with any other games that GW has and they have a very small download compliment. I think this mod directly conflicts with dawn of war 3 and therefore they may attempt to use it as a scape goat if dawn of war 3 flops.
I'm sure there are plenty of things that GW could pick up on, but they don't have any movies in the works so its not going to steal any profit from them, so they probably won't care. As long as it isn't defacing their brand, that is.
I can't comment on crytek software as I don't know it well enough to say what they're copyright status would be.
I would love to get a license, but seeing as there is no way to make this easily profitable, for a decent profit at least, without then having problems from the creators of assault squad, it will have to go, as GW wouldn't give out a license for free.
It was not an easy decision, but rather one I have been contemplating for several days now. And, as mentioned, with the advice of many friends who all gave the same answer when giving the same information laid out.
Non-profit does not mean that it isn't copyright infringement. Due to me using assets from another title, which are not only owned by GW but also by several other companies, it is illegal for me to use them without the permission from all parties, which I do not have. The mod assets I used from FOK and others are classed as "Derivative works" bar the titans, and even with permission from the mod developers I cannot use them. They are covered under different laws because they used official mod tools to create them and are only adding back to that original product, dawn of war.
As far as GW would be concerned, I am drawing attention away from their products to a different product using their assets, and therefore am liable to any harm done to their profits, or what harm they believe I have done, and I therefore I may have to reimburse them for anything they have lost due to my mod, regardless if I made any money off of it or not.
Believe me, I have researched every option I have, and this is the only one that gives me a good chance of not losing everything I have.
*Edit* As stated in the reply I gave above, copyright laws are extremely confusing and downright backwards when it comes to mods.
Short answer, no.
Long answer, hell nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Laws are confusing, especially copyright ones.
I will keep it for personal use, as there is no restriction as such on personal mods. However I doubt I will do any more work on it.
Ah, that's simply an overwrite problem. Just double check there is a meltagun in the ptr folder in rifle, if there is, delete the one in rifle.
It could be an ammunition issue or the charger issue, i believe there is a fix for them on the forums. If not, report back here and ill give you the fix, its quite long to type xD
Melee is in, as best as i can make it, but units with ranged and melee attacks always prefer ranged, because thats how the AI thinks. Human players can use the melee on them though.
