Many of you have already seen something about AMD's EyeFinity and/or Nvidia Surround, but what you may not know is that multiple monitor gaming was possible way before the red and green camps decided to get their hands dirty. Since I like it so much I decided to write a few words about it...

SoftTH, the brainchild of a swedish programmer who goes by the alias "kegetys" is a free DirectX wrapper which allows games to be displayed on multiple monitors; all you need is two or more displays and enough video outputs to drive them. Though SoftTH is limited to DX9 titles, it supports any combination of landscape & portrait modes, mismatched resolutions and older hardware, all of which are currently impossible with EyeFinity/Surround.

Performance is generally quite good and improving with newer versions, with a small but dedicated fanbase providing unofficial support through the forums (myself included). Anyone interested in gaming on multiple displays who doesn't have EyeFinity/Surround capable cards, or requires portrait mode and/or mismatched resolutions should seriously give SoftTH a try. It completely changed the gaming experience for me, and after playing with three 23in monitors at 6000x1080 I simply can't go back!
