oh also, the Fighters have no cockpit HUD, and the capital ships in space look like toys, the corellian corvette looks like a preschool baby toy that is designed to be too big for the child to fit in his mouth being all chubby and plastic looking, the Victory Frigates look ugly as sin (the only thing that makes them even remotely resemble a Victory is that they are triangular shaped and have wings on them, but they look horrible and the wings just make them bigger targets.) and are tiny by comparison, having the hangar on the side of the star destroyer was stupid with no logical reason I don't care what their excuse is it's just lazy and pathetic, games like X-Wing Alliance have better models of Capital ships than this game, if for no other reason than they actually do the hangars right... not only that but the space maps in X-wing Alliance are bigger, there are more fighters (both on screen and in the selection) there are more capital ships (including the Super Star Destroyer) that actually MOVE AROUND, I remember Battlefield 1942 had battleships, destroyers and Carriers that you could take the helm of and move around the map, I was expecting the same in Battlefront 2, but once again they failed to deliver

if you want proper scale with BEAUTIFULL models, try Deep Space in Star Wars Galaxies, even though you can't board any of the ships, you will not find more acurate or beautifully detailed 3D star wars ships anyhere else.

I blame the rush that this game was made in, pressured to be released in time for the DVD of Revenge of the Sith, hopefully they will make a Battlefront 3 to make up for this one, with a far more flexible deadline so they don't have to cut corners or leave things unfinished/unpolished.

unfortunetly for every step forward in Battlefront 2, there is a step back from battlefront 1, the first level in the campaign gives an experience that almost makes you want to uninstall it and return it to the store... with the glory of the Geonosis map in the first Battlefront game no more than a memory, the Geonosis map in Battlefront 2 is a sick joke, one look at the sky and/or minimap will testify to that, scaled down, horribly skinned skybox and an even more claustrophobic environment than the first game, more than half the maps from Battlefront 1 are absent in Battlefront 2, such as Tatooine Dune Sea/homesteads, Naboo Fields, Yavin Arena, both Bespin Maps (platforms and Cloud City) are gone, as are the Rhen Var maps, both Kashyyyk maps are gone, replaced with a pseudo acurate film one (even though the Battlefront 1 Kashyyyk beach was almost more acurate than the Battlefront 2 one with the acception of the vehicles and some other details, the overall layout was more accurate.) the space battles come at the price of NO ATMOSPHERIC FLIGHT in ANY ground map except Hoth, so no Gunships on the ground and no Fighters either, the controlls/handling for the Snowspeeders are about the same as for the X-Wings, complete with the unfortunete ability to turn upside down, which makes using a TOE cable much more difficult (in battlefront 1 you simply had to turn as hard as you could and fiddle with the throttle/pitch to go around an AT-AT but if you try that you will simply spin and likely crash.)

the only graphics upgrades were the Droideka's shield buble ripples when shot, and some blurs that make the graphics seem a bit better when they are really not, the models are the same as before and the patheticly obvious lack of animation variety really ruin the game at times (they have pretty much 1 animation for human soldiers and 1 for soldiers with missile launchers, and just re-used them over and over again, so the idling animation for a rebel trooper where he slaps the clip in to his gun (the clip located on the bottom of the gun) is used for EVERY soldier not carying a big tube on his/it's shoulder or on it's wrist thus the stormtrooper slaps the bottom of the barrel of his carbine for no reason, (the clip being on the side) and an officer (who's armed with a pistol) slaps nothing but air in front of his gun. there are only 4 infantry animation groups, the one used in Rebel soldiers, Plex soldiers, Droideka, and Super Battle Droids, the hero animations have more variety, but not a massive ammount of it.) the guy with the gattling gun holds it over one shoulder because they cheaped out and used an ARC trooper with a different texture skin, and no one in their right mind would ever hold a gattling gun like that, it's hard enough to hold it in the traditional way with both hands and in your center of gravity. NO new animations were added to the infantry save maybe one, the only really noticable new animations were given to Jedi and the new vehicles.

some of the controlls are better, the AT-AT walks faster, only requires 1 pilot and has more flexibility in the neck, vehicles can "run" by using a boosting mechanism, but you cannot lie prone nor can you give commands to NPC soldiers, in Battlefront 1 you could tell NPC to get in a vehicle, leave a vehicle, defend a position, follow you, disperse (stop following) and such, in Battlefront 2, you can't give ANY orders whatsoever, while Republic Commando may have the best AI in first person shooters, Battlefront 2 may very well have the worst at the very least in recent history, there are many soldiers standing around doing nothing even while blaster bolts are whizzing by their heads, a stormtrooper get's shot in the back by a shotgun and turns around, stares at the guy who shot him and then gets another load to the face and dies.

overall it's a sad, pathetic, sick and cruel joke of a Sequel, but a half decent game on it's own. it's more of an alternate Battlefront than a sequel, I woulden't even call it worth an expansion, though It would have been better if they had made it as one, at least then the,

it's truly a game that relies on it's predicessor and it's franchise to sell itself despite the vast number of flaws. just like Star Wars Galaxies, if Battlefront 2 wasnt star wars, virtually no one would have heard of it, much less still play it.

I had an Idea for a mod as well, I wanted to post it up as it's own mod but... for those of you who have played Battlefront 2 already, you will find they changed quite a few things on various battlefields, for one, they removed Bespin entirely, and many of the other maps, now there is only one map per planet, which kindof sucks, but oh well,

another thing is that the battle of Geonosis is completely different, it's a much smaller map with no Laat gunships and no spire, no Techno union ships and only one AT-TE vs 2 Spider Droids and a Hailfire, also the skybox on this new map is screwed up.

therefore, I think it would be best to make a mod returning classic battlefront maps to battlefront 2, with the classic versions of the vehicles, (the new AT-ATs work differently, they only seat one, and the primary fire is the gunner's fire the secondary fire was the pilot's fire, which works fine) but the new Laat is nowhere near what it used to be, I loved the old Laat, it was something fearsome, also one should be able to just stand in the Laat and have it take off, the walls close in in the new Laat gunship so the guy might tumble around inside as the pilot maneuvers and such, but won't fall out in this way one can cram in around a dozen Troops into a single Laat rather than before,

the Laat's weakness is that two hits from a rocket launcher can bring it down, so the pilot has to be wary.

The other maps will include Bespin city, where you can get Han solo and boba fett as heroes, or perhaps chewbaca with c-3po on his back, (the initial release will prolly have just plain chewie)

there will be aditional assault maps in the manner of Mos Eisley assault entitled "Duel" maps these include an enlarged Mustafar map which has the lava lake and floating, moving platforms, as well as the classic "High Ground" area, a new map of the Bespin carbon freezing chamber/bottomless pit, where you can also fall into one of those tubes.
and finnaly, the emperor's throne room from Return of the jedi,
possible inclusions might be a new Death Star Interior assault where Ben Kenobi can Duel Darth Vader, though that would require new models

2 brand spankin new space maps, Death Star surface/trench run, and Space Endor, both feature a massive Death star and unlike normal space maps, you cannot win simply by destroying imperial ships, the imperials have the advantage in terms of a low point limit, in that they only need to destroy 2 Calimari cruisers and enough ships, but the rebels have an advantage in that they only need to destroy one thing in order to secure victory, normal space maps have 180 points limit, the more enemys you kill the more points you get, destroying parts of enemy capital ships gives much more, you can destroy parts from the outside and some you can take out from the inside, the imperials have 400 points to get, the rebels have 2000 to get, however, there is one object on the map that if destroyed, is worth 2000 points, the Death star main reactor, deep within the death star itself, the rebels must fly into the superstructure trying desprately not to crash, and destroy the main reactor and get out in time, when the main reactor is destroyed there is a time limit, the rebels have in essence already won, it doesnt matter if the imperials get to, or over their 400 goal at this point, all the time limit does is tell the reb pilots how much time they have before the entire death star explodes, deadly fire rages through the superstructure, and you have to race against it in order to survive, once the death star explodes it will send thousands of asteroid like fragments in all directions, which have to be avoided, after the time is up the day is yours.

with the death star surface/trench run its pretty much the same deal, the trench goes on for quite a distance and is your best bet because it gives you cover from the autoturrets all over the surface, the interior of the death star includes 5 gun ports for imperial gunners to man, two of which are right in front of the exhaust port, the exhaust port is such a distance away and at such an angle that it cannot be targeted from long range, however, two torpedoes from an X-wing will be able to destroy it, and a hangar for imperial pilots to leave from, the rebels on the other hand spawn in space as either X-wings or Y-wings automatically rather than as pilots and getting into their fighters, the imperials and the rebels once again have similar goals to the endor space map, however the imperial points are down to 30 or 50, the rebel points are at 1000, but the death star exhaust port is worth 1000 points, so no matter what, if they get the exhaust port, they win.

these are ideas I have and can be implemented without too much dificulty, I have another, more ambitious project called "Star Wars Battlefront 2: Clone Wars" which includes maps such as Hypori Assault, Expanded Coruscant, Seige of Muunilinst, Rescue on Hypori, Muuilinst city, Muuilinst Space, Muuilinst Tower,
Mon Calimari, Yavin Ruins, Illum with the crystal cave

essentually this brings the battles in the cartoon series, Clone Wars into the Battlefront game, new models need to be made, and I may even go as far as changing the overall graphics to make it cell shaded and REALLY look like it's the Cartoon, though two versions might be better for people, Cell shaded and non Cell Shaded.

awsome game, I myself have been Working on a Fantasy game that is very similar, once I got Rome Total War, it was like getting a playtest to check some balance issues that I wasn't sure about plus an engine that could be used for the game with some tweaking.

so this honken dread is a vehicle type, interesting, I wonder, how much work would it realisticaly take to make it a Troop type, but if it blows up it costs like 25-30 ticket and have terminators but they cost 10-15 ticket, scouts cost 2 ticket, normal marines cost 5, that sort of thing? also It would be cool to see Tyranids and Orks in there in a later incarnation of the mod, after the existing work load is done you guys could take a break before making said add ons of course, if you want to, also It would be cool to have different colours and such for the Marines in later incarnations of the mod, so you can play as other chapters, also have stuff like say,the Cadians as well as the Mordians and the Talarn and the Catachan and the Steel Legion (which it looks like that is the included Guard type) and of course who can forget the Valhallans. GREAT WORK!!! keep it up!!

I don't think they had Marines in the 33rd century did they? I think Marines only came about during the 22nd Millenium, Also with that Screenshot of Tigurius I thought that This was going to be an Ultramarines campaign Mod (The Realm of Ultramar is realy more of a Republic anyways, and I always thought It would be cool to see a new sort of look for the Ultramarines that would have the sergents be known as Centurions and the Force commander a Legatus or something along those lines, with the Crests on the Veteran first companies and special raised crests for the Terminators. Giving the Ultramarines a more romanesque look )

The Enemy AI doesent seem to realize for the most part that the Population limit has been increased substantialy, at least not in the easier difficulty levels. (I havent gotten around to trying it on harder modes) Also with the increased size of the armies it makes the maps a lot more cramped, Ive had to squeeze Marine armies off all things into bottlenecks when I make assaults, (which is annoying in the biffy's peril map if you want to make a Marine rush, though Whirlwinds make this job much easier *Maniacal Laugh*)

That would be great, Btw Where did you get the Imperial Guard models? When I ran them on the beta my jaw almost hit the floor, They looked like they were made by Relic entertainment themselves, Unfortunetly although I could select them I couldent do anything else with them. so I tried it in the demo and it worked flawlessly. I couldent beleive the voice overs, they sounded so official! The closest thing I could figure is that they have those units in the campaign version of the full game, as rescuables or something, but not as an actual race in skirmish mode, Also I noticed that They have no real AI, I played the Biffy's Peril map with 3 on 1 Imperials and one ork army, (thanks to moving the data folder from the open beta to the Demo's respective folder) Unfortunetly While I was able to mop the floor with the Orks (though with a somewhat tenuous hold on them) my Allies did absolutely nothing whatsoever, The guard AI is only good enough to know to defend themselves when attacked, Is that going to be changed?

course I would rather see Terry Team up with Inuyasha, (as long as inuyasha doesn't go all Orochi) oh speaking of, how are you going to implement the Whole thing with Inuyasha going crazy (Orochi Style) Whenever he looses the tetsaiga? If you are going to implement it at all.

Terry bogard vs Inuyasha, hmmm, Can the Final Geyser stand toe to toe with the wind scar? Id like to think so! Yes I am a KOF Freak As i have mentioned many times, but still. (And yes I beleive that Terry Bogard could beat Ryu any day of the week, If not in all out power than in sheer coolness and character depth.)

PLEASE make an update that allows Imperial guard to have Buildings If you arent already!!! Hell I wouldent mind seing a Stop-gap solution of just using Space marine variants in the meantime! (an imperial base could be made up of like tents or something. and troops brought in Via Valkayries at helipads.)
