I am an aspiring game designer from Toronto, currently working on mods for Paradox Interactive's grand strategy games. I made the Truly Impassible Mountains minimod for Sengoku (introducing a map-design technique that Paradox themselves now uses), was a senior designer for the A Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings II (and personally wrote the duel engine, later incorporated into several other mods and shamelessly copied into the vanilla game in Way of Life), and currently lead the development of Crisis of the Confederation - Crusader Kings IN SPACE!

It's mostly a thematic similarity. I'm referring specifically to Forward the Foundation, which was the lost Foundation novel and was about Hari Seldon's old age in the last decades of the Galactic Empire. Like the Empire, the Terran Confederation is dying, and a new dark age is coming. COTC is about watching civilization decay and collapse, and then trying to salvage something from the ashes.

Some people have actually begun working on this very submod concept already.

While COTC occasionally contains thinly-veiled or even completely-unveiled science-fiction references, it is still an original setting. If we add aliens (and we may, at some point in the future) they will be original aliens.

People who want to add their own alien species are welcome to make a modmod.

The republic screen thing is purely a UI issue - your family palace does exist, and you have the standard trade post limit, the game is just lying to you about it. You can still build trade posts, and you can select your family palace by selecting one of your other holdings, then cycling through owned holdings on the building panel.

The crash issue is PROBABLY an issue with the new music files, that's been fixed in the 0.10.1 hotfix.

First, you need to successfully dissolve the Senate. Once you've done that, you'll be able to issue a decree converting to a military government.

While we don't plan on doing a Star Wars mod ourselves any time soon, we encourage people who want to use COTC as the basis for their own submods, and I HAVE seen a Star Wars submod in progress that's actually coming along pretty well. No promises, though.

If you're not even seen the vanilla CK2 models than I honestly can't say what your problem is. I'd have to assume you've installed SOMETHING incorrectly. You do see models in vanilla, right?

Beta 0.9 is now awaiting authorization, and I am biting the hands that feeds us by informing you all that this is also our first Steam Workshop release! You can find that download here: Steamcommunity.com

Well, that's certainly very strange. Are you sure that:

- The mod is in the correct mod folder? This is the mod folder in [My Documents] (or your OS's equivalent)\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II, not the one in the Steam folder!
- That you don't have any other mods enabled? They may be overwriting the changes made by CotC.

It's certainly not being caused by the version difference, at least.

The Frontier, the New Frontier, and Avalon have Anglo-American majority populations. The Frontier and New Frontier are more American, Avalon more Anglo.

(and of course Earth still has some ACTUAL Anglo-Americans)

You might find the faction cards under Features to be helpful.

2.3.4 didn't make many major changes, so it should be compatible. If you DO experience problems, the Betas tab on the Properties panel in Steam should allow you to roll back to an earlier version.

Unfortunately, issues like this are extremely difficult to troubleshoot remotely, but I'll give what suggestions I can:

- Make sure the game is installed properly and up-to-date. You can get Steam to double-check this for you by selecting "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" on the Local Files tab of the Properties window.
- Make sure the mod is installed correctly. It should be placed in the [My Documents]/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/mod folder, not the similar folder in the root directory.

The Hivers ARE implemented, but they're a late game development. The implant has to be invented, and the inventor has to meet the following criteria:

- Has a landed title
- Is Cyberneticist
- Has a capital system with a Cybernetics tech level of at least 5
- Has learning at least 20

If you meet all of these criteria, the event can fire for you (the higher your learning, and the higher the Cybernetics tech level of your capital, the faster it will fire). You can also wait for it to happen to the AI, although the AI will sometimes decide that no, this is a BAD idea, which can delay things further.

The inability to load a saved game is a result of compatibility issues with Charlemagne and The Old Gods - you need to disable both of those. CotC doesn't actually use any Charlemagne or TOG features, to my knowledge, so you shouldn't lose much.

I honestly can't remember if we have a way to gain the Full Cybernetic Conversion trait legitimately yet. It should be available as a trait in the ruler designer, though, and you can certainly jack yourself up with all kinds of smaller implants legitimately.

- This is still technically a beta. We do hope to have a (nearly) complete set of flags in 0.9. Ship graphics are still largely placeholders, we're working on making more.

- You should not have checksum DAQH for CotC 0.8 and CKII 2.3.3 - we've confirmed that the proper checksum is REVT. Are you sure you haven't updated to CKII 2.3.4?

That is what the checksum is, yes. QJCO is not the right one, though, so you're not playing the correct build. If you don't have any other mods active (Ruler Designer and Customization Pack are DLC, not mods) then you've installed either vanilla or CotC incorrectly. Try reinstalling. The correct checksum is REVT.

Any CTDs on startup are PROBABLY caused by either the mod or vanilla not being installed properly, compatibility issues, or something else of that nature.

At first glance, it sounds like you have another mod active at the same time. What's your checksum?

Multi-donor clones are a medium-term goal. They're a bit tricky technically, which is why I haven't really touched them yet. Although due to a vanilla bug, it's actually possible for lesbian couples to have children naturally. Go figure.

Same-sex marriage is already possible, via the "Marry Your Lover" decision. Arranged same-sex marriages aren't possible, due to hard-coded limitations. However, since the purpose of an arranged political marriage is to produce an heir, I'm willing to live with that.

Oh, right, yes!

We actually do have some rough drafts for what to do with the focus system, but it's not a priority at the moment.

I admit that I'm not sure what you mean. I understand there are some issues with the seduction mechanic introduced in Way of Life, but if that's what you're talking about, it's a vanilla issue, not CotC.

It wasn't, until very recently. Like it says in the description, there was a recent breakthrough by a modder named Joror that enabled us to add custom models.

I can think of a few possible solutions:

- Are you trying to run any other mods? If so, odds are they probably aren't compatible with CotC.
- Can you run vanilla properly? Is your vanilla checksum DAQH? If the answer to either is no, then you'll need to reinstall vanilla.
- Make sure CotC is installed correctly, to your My Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\mod folder. You might consider deleting and reinstalling it.

It's caused by having Charlemagne or The Old Gods active. Deactivate those DLCs and the problem will go away.

I'd like to see if I can get it out this week, actually.

No mods except CotC and its official submods, correct. DLCs other than TOG and Charlemagne should be fine.

I can only assume that you've installed the mod incorrectly. Please make sure you followed the instructions and that you have no other mods or incompatible DLCs active.

It's probably an installation problem. Are you sure your version is up-to-date, the mod is installed in the right place, and you don't have any other mods active?
