Yep, it was not my original intention to put the mod on this site, an early member did it.

dev c++ is a nice IDE though visual studio is a better learning experience with its intellisense, although .NET 2003 version does cost a bit they do a free 2005 express version checking out.

These days VB.NET is very powerful, however I dislike the syntax, but most people put that down to preference, I tend to disagree, though I have my opinion, I can't deny that it is fully OOP, I just prefer c style languages.

Hi Kenyo,

Originally I did not want this mod on moddb, as it is a personal project to familiarise myself with C++ and game technology.

This mod won't die, but it will take a long time to complete, as I am building in it on my own, sound, graphics, code, the lot.

I would'nt expect to much from the quality of the content, however the mod will not die, it just won't be as quality as other mods that have entire teams on them.

Yeh that's all I ever played, the multiplayer demo, you can change the controls in the control tab, using full sim mode is the best option, it's difficult to control at first but when you get used to it its much better, however I don't think you can change the keys which is a shame, I think the game was built for a joystick.

Yeh, Cyberstrike 2, not many people seem to have heard of it, you can still download and play it here Play.net

It's a multiplayer game where you get 4 teams and battle it out in on a map, gameplay is very unique.

Well thats good, I am determined to finish my mod no matter what, even if it takes me 5 years! It's a great achievement for me as it's so much more challenging than business applications.

btw, The Wakening of Machines was inspired by Cyberstrike 2, a great game in it's day.

Cool, same as that, I would also like to break into the gaming industry if I am not to old by the time I get there, by trade I am a software engineer, I code business applications all day in c#, when I get home I like to dabble with more advanced programming subjects.

I can imagine architecture really helps with 3d modeling!

One of the hunter killer robots, when hit with this weapon, is "rebooted", and it's Neural Net imprinted with a Human Protection Law.

That is a nice idea, I would think they could become the bot and when the bot gets killed they would return to there human character.

It sounds like you are a very busy guy! I haven't found any modellers yet that can show me more than a picture of what they are working on, and it's no fun sitting around waiting to implement a model, Iv'e been waiting 4 months so far and made a basic machine so far, so I am just mainly doing the ground work on the gameplay.

It's tough trying to be a one man band but I have given myself 3 years to get a public beta!

Damn your models look amazing, I could really do with your help on The Wakening of Machines :) I would even pay you for a good working model of a machine! providing it's not to much as I only have a low budget considering mods are free.

Yes, very true, the mod story is much like terminator, the actual story is geared toward the gameplay, I started out designing the gameplay document first, and then writing a basic story to go with it, so the game will be pretty much gameplay oriented.

The machines will be 2 legged like pods, much like ed209's (robocop) or regault scouts from the macross series.

I am actively developing the mod however I do not have a modeller to make the dream a reality.

The game play will be similar to that of ut2004, with a few big differences.

The idea is to get that david and goliath type feel to the game where resistance fighters will need to use their wit and some unique equipment.

I know it's not a good idea to keep secrets, but I don't want to reveal to much just yet about how to play the game, however it will be addictive and fun!

It took a lot of thought on how to balance a game like this, although the machines will be almighty powerful, you can still defeat them, but it would require a bit of team work, so I might be going with a 2:1 ratio of resistance to machines to ensure the balance won't be overpowering on the machines behalf, but that might not be necessary, mainly as a last resort.

Are you not being a little to ambitious with the HL2 engine with an MMOG?

HL2 SDK won't support this out of the box, but there would probably be some ways round it, you would need some damn good coders to pull that one off!
