Cogs

Game review

Cogs is a pretty nice puzzle game. It's not as frustrating as playing those sliding puzzles (I find those really boring) because there are duplicate slices. Sometimes it does get complicated, but it's fun and practice really helps. You can learn how to manipulate pieces into going where you want them to. Using a 3x2 area you can arrange 5 tiles into any configuration you want.

Some levels have some additional pieces that make for some interesting puzzles, like the music games, where timming is important. If you like slider puzzle games, I think that you won't find a better one than this one. However, if you are very good at it, you might complete all the puzzle levels fast, but you will still get replayability if you want to earn all the stars. There are two additional game modes. I specially like the challenge mode where you have to finish the puzzle with only 10 moves.

I'm giving it a 8/10, though. Because despite it's got potential to get a 9 or perhaps even 10, I'm still not very fond of the sliding puzzles.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Game review

This game is the scariest thing I've ever played.
And I can tell you that I'm not easily scared (specially in movies). If you like horror stuff you shouldn't skip this one, definitely.

The story (which you basicly read in diary pages and notes you find around) is intriguing, you won't know what's going on until you have advanced most areas in the game. The game has a few different endings, although there isn't much choice until the very end, so it's pretty linear (you can change the order you do some things, though). However, it makes for a quite misterious and excing ambient, with some pretty gory and dark details at some moments.

The fact that you can't kill your enemies but have to hide from them, along with the sanity level and its effects, really add up to the atmosphere and I think it's what makes this game really frightening. But you really need to play it alone and in the dark to have full effect. It wasn't so scary for me when I tried playing it during the day with friends.

A big plus is that after you have beaten the game you still have playability ahead of you because of the custom stories and mods. In fact, now included with the last update a new short story is bundled in it, which is very short but also quite good.

I think that this is a game that will remain as a classic in the horror game genre.
