Thanks friend, unfortunately I don't think these bugs will be fixed soon since there is no tool to change the game source code. But I hope when GOG or STEAM decide to sell this game their game developers fix that before releasing using game reverse engineering ;)

I only tested in Windows so the only file that maybe is not compatible with linux is ddraw.dll, if you remove this file maybe it works. But the game will have many bugs over Windows 10 without ddraw.dll

Hi please check if the not working laptop has a video resolution above 2048x1536 (Users reported the game doesn't work above this resolution)

Also check if you installed these following softwares in both laptops:

-Activate DirectPlay in your Windows (It's essential to play KPC in Win 10 and 11)
-Install DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtimes (June 2010)
-Install Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One
-Install K-Lite Codec Pack Full (Or else many games crash when videos play)
-Install nGlide - Glide wrapper
-Install and Activate .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
-Check if DirectDraw acceleration and Direct3D acceleration are enabled in your windows
-Disable Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention) for the game executable in case the "psycho.exe"

If nothing solves maybe some hardware is incompatible and would be hard to identify since laptops have many integrated hardware, but even external devices like mouse or joysticks could be the problem.

Yes there is resolution limit. A user in Nexus reported me he can't play at resolutions higher than 2048x1536 all lower resolutions work, so it seems there is a limit to supported video resolutions. Try new DDDrawCompat versions to see if it has being fixed.

Hi, wrong patch language can be the reason like UK English patch over US English game, or US Patch over UK game, Collectors Edition game needs US Collectors Edition Patch. Another cause is the game is already patched, it happens if you downloaded some riped version instead installed from CD

Hi would like to help but I can't reproduce your issue. Hardware issue is a complex problem cause I never know if it's related to the game engine or the patch files. Hope someone else could help you if they have the same problem. I already limited the game to 60 fps in this patch ;)

During my tests the game doesn't crash in windows 7, 8 ,8.1 and 10 without this patch. If the game is crashing or your CD game / ISO is corrupted and is not installing all files. Or you don't installed you cd game in setup type "custom" selecting all boxes like in read me file from this patch or some hardware is not compatible it can be motherboard, GPU, keyboard, mouse, joystick. I play in notebook and it works with or without this patch in Windows 7, 8.1 , 10 and 11 since I tested and beat the game without any crash

As the original game works without crashing in windows 10 even without this patch but only with some fps and color glitches so if it's crashing even without the patch it means some of your hardware is not compatible anymore with the game engine. To be sure test the game without this patch, cause the patch will only fix fps and color bugs

Hardware can be a possible limitation unfortunately, but these softwares are essential for old games work in modern windows. Other problems are corrupted CD-ROM not installing all needed files or corrupted ISO files and some Rip Versions found. This Patch needs the original CD game installed exactly like in Read Me file ;)

Hi NodGrunt, never tested Multiplayer. I just know how to host a server but I'm not sure if it's possible to host a World Server anymore maybe only for LAN it still works.

1-In Game Main Menu first click at [USER MAP] and load a map to play.

2-Press "Esc" to go to Game Main Menu again then click at [MULTIPLAYER] now the game allows you to host a server.

Hi, I added a folder called "(EXTRA) KPC Official Patches" inside the file. So inside it you will find all old official patches for all languages ;)

Hi FPS dropping in combat is related to "ddraw.dll". This file is responsible to fix this bug, so please check inside your game folder if there is this file. If so you intalled this patch in the right directory.

If the problem persists try testing other "ddraw.dll" versions. This patch is using the version v0.3.2 since the last v0.4.0 doesn't work in Windows 8.1.

Hi it's not possible to start the game running "client.exe"
It only starts running "psycho.exe" ;)

This patch corrects that since it comes with "No-CD" executable but you have to install the game like in Read Me file:

1-First, install your CD game in Setup Type "Custom" then select all options like [Executable Files] [Game Data] [Movie Files] [Music Files] [StrategyGuide] so it will install all files in your HD and you will be able to play without CD perfectly using this Patch.

2-As this Patch works in all game versions you don't need to install any Official Patch, but if you want to patch your game to the last 1.13 patch wich allows you to play without CD Protection and fix some bugs, install it BEFORE installing KCP Windows 10 Patch. (I added a folder called "(EXTRA) KPC Official Patches" so inside it you will find all old official patches for all languages)

3-Lastly, install this "KPC Windows 10 Patch" inside your "Psycho" folder at: "C:\Games\Psycho" or wherever directory you intalled your game

Thanks friend hope it helps other gamers with the same hardware problem. It is related to your hardware since my game crashes when I use this dinput.dll in my Windows 8.1. I don't know if it's related to my hardware or my windows version ;)

Hi LeRutYthis this game engine was made to max resolution 1024x768 since it was released in 2000 before the widescreen video resolution era. So in higher resolutions the HUD will not scale I think in any versions

Hi, dude try reactivating "DirectPlay" in your Windows cause there are some Windows Updates that disable that again automaticaly.

For me as example the last DDrawCompat v0.4.0 didn't work I don't know if it's cause I have Windows 8.1 or my GPU Video Card is not supported but the DDrawCompat v0.3.2 worked ;)

I already tested and it worked you have to Install / Activate the following softwares in Windows 11 for old games run:

The only way to uninstall the game completely is inserting your CD again then run setup.exe and it will appear a message "Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all its components?" then click at "OK". Then Run setup.exe again and you will be able to reinstall the game since the registry was completely uninstalled ;)

Hi wmn955 test the game without this patch, if it at least works with some color glitches and fps issues it means your hardware is compatible. This patch is just Win 10 and 11 compatible so it doesn't mean it's compatible to all kind of modern hardwares. So it's hard to help you since I can't reproduce your issue in my pc since it works in my Windows 8.1 / 10 / 11 perfectly activating "DirectPlay" in my windows

Hello Yahari, ddraw.dll by narzoul is still in development and still is not adapted to all modern hardwares, video cards and monitor resolutions, also maybe the game engine is not compatible to all hardwares so it's not easy to identify the problem, so try removing this ddraw.dll from your game folder to be sure and wait for future updates from DDrawCompat. Please check DDrawCompat page for new releases and test all new and old versions:

Some years ago they sold the 2.06 version but since they find out only 2.0 and 2.01 are compatible with windows 10 I don't know if they changed the version. Please ask them before buy it. But even for 2.06 version there is an additional fix I uploaded in their forum:

Hi donbit there is a file inside the game folder called "bob2_ver.txt" there you can check your game version. This patch works over versions 2.0 / 2.01 / 2.02 / 2.03

For 2.06 version you will need the additional fix posted in the A2A forum:

If the game doesn't work after the patch the problem is that "ddraw.dll" from narzoul is not compatible with your hardware, so it means you just have to remove it from the game folder and doesn't need to reinstall it. But you still would keep other fixes like high fps fix, out of sync intro, no-cd patch and third person cam. Without ddraw.dll you will still get the weird main menu colors and maybe low fps during combat and in main menu. Please try it again and rebember to activate "DirectPlay" in you Windows ;)
