Not using custom game start, I did a clean install of the game... Hmm, could it be because I still had stuff left in the Paradox Games folder (the one in C/documents)? I'll try to reinstall then.

Same for me. Aside from that, some stuff can't be researched as well. It appears in the queue, but it's always red, has no completion time and in the tech tree, the tech is not marked with the magnifying glass.

Just not Crusade... That makes as much sense as throwing a sandwich on a dirty ground, then picking it up and licking the place where it was lying.

Does not matter. The models and sounds are intellectual property and cannot be used in any way, shape or form without the consent of original author. Consent which he clearly does not have.
