We are unable to resolve bugs in third-party software so you will have to take this issue up with the vendors of those products.

We do take reports of issues seriously but heuristic-based malware scores are not an actionable item while being inherently prone to false positives. Note also that the "new" executable you linked is the launcher that selects between the 32-bit (Windows XP or newer) and 64-bit (Windows Vista or newer) variants of the main arx.exe while the old is the main 64-bit arx.exe. This launcher arx.exe is only 194 KB in size, most of which is used by the icon, and I have previously verified that it contains no malicious code. You are welcome to do your own analysis of this file or hire a third party to do it for you.

Please describe which behavior of Arx Libertatis you think is malicious so that we can fix it.

The console can't do anything the game scripts couldn't do before - and both can't affect anything outside the game.

arx.exe and arx-portable.exe also aren't invoking any suspicious method - feel free to disassemble them, they have almost no code - most of their size is the embedded icon resource. It's just ****** machine learning algorithms that MS and other vendors need to fix.

Yes, you can update from 1.1 and saves are compatible.

I have reported the false positive to Microsoft and the detection will soon be gone. The detections are based on machine learning so who knows what the problem is but its something about the arx.exe launcher in the root directory that does nothing more than just select the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the game.

Not a bug - as far as I can tell AF 1.21 also has that behavior. Also, I think it kinda makes sense - a sword has more weight to it so you'll need to put more effort into swinging it.

No, you can get the game data from either Steam, GOG.com or a physical Arx Fatalis disk (just make sure you patch it up to version 1.21).

Hey, do you experience this with Arx Libertatis? If so, please open a bug report at Bugs.arx-libertatis.org and attach a save file from just before the cutscene. You can find your save files here: arx.vg/Data_directories#Default_directories

It's a known issue that we just haven't gotten around to implementing yet: Bugs.arx-libertatis.org

Yes, it leads to the surface. There is a key somewhere in the game to open it and when you do there is a small cutscene - but it's more of an easter egg.

I don't think we'll implement such gameplay changes in core Arx Libertatis as they can easily change the balance, but we will try to make things easier to mod and likely create some mods ourselves.

Arx Libertatis 1.1 and newer already use OpenGL by unless you have manually selected Direct3D in the settings. Try deleting 'cfg.ini' in 'My Documents\My Games\Arx Libertatis' to reset the configuration.

Ah, I see now what changed: In 1.0.x we had a special mode if the data files where not found at any 'standard' location, where Arx used the working directory (Steam sets that to ''Steam\steamapps\common\Arx Fatalis') for data files, but also for config and save files. This mode was removed and we now instead consider the directory containing arx.exe as a 'standard' location for data files.

If you want the old behavior, you can add this to the launch options: --user-dir=. --config-dir=.

Be sure to upgrade to 1.1.1 though as we found that 1.1 contains a regression breaking map markers: Arx-libertatis.org

> The problem is that I can't seem to load my 1.0.3 saves in version 1.1

They don't show up in the saves list or is there an error when trying to load them?

> my saves are located in 'Steam\steamapps\common\Arx Fatalis' in the 'Save' folder

That's where vanilla Arx Fatalis puts save files (if installed through Steam).

To use them in Arx Libertatis, copy the 'save' folder to 'My Documents\My Games\Arx Libertatis' for Windows XP or to 'Saved Games\Arx Libertatis' for Windows Vista or newer.

When launching Arx Fatalis through Steam it will use the original version, not Arx Libertatis. Unless you manually add Arx Libertatis to Steam as a non-Steam game, but even then it will be a separate entry in your library.

Yes, the save format or location hasn't changed in 1.1 - you can load 1.0.x saves in 1.1 and even the other way around.

Arx Libertatis can even load vanilla Arx Fatalis saves if you put them in the right directory, but saves created by AL cannot be loaded by AF.

We have just released a new version (1.1) - does it still crash? If so, please open a bug report at Bugs.arx-libertatis.org
