Having the same problem as @brashrooster and @kuftikufti ; using:
$ lsb_release --all
No LSB modules are available.

One thing I noticed when starting the game from a console (not sure if at all related to the problem though);
*due to restrictions on desura comments* see: Pastebin.com

However despite the above, the same problem persists as with @brashrooster and @kuftikufti
Just posting this in case it solves a/the problem for someone else.

Same problem on desura (at least while trying to install the demo):
"Aeon Command is not supported on this platform.: There are no releases for this platform [74.0]"
