Have you properly extracted all the 'Darkplaces-Recommended-Build' folder content to your default Quake one?

I have no problems running it on 0.98b so far so I guess yes.

Ok it was propably Ignitable Campfires mod fault.

Is it just me or you can't hear anymore a sound while grabbing items from the ground in 0.98b ?

Check on English language in game options.

Make sure you have activated English localization in options menu.
