Hi. I'm Crimsonum, Crim for short. I'm a veteran member of the Command & Conquer community, more specifically the Tiberian Sun modding community. I joined the community in around 2005 and have been stuck there ever since.

Congratulations on the release! I have been following this project for at least a year now, and the progress has been amazing. Truly a fantastic project! Kudos to you and all the contributors. I'll throw in an extra buck, too.

I think it would be strange for GDI and Nod to have lost their own technology like that. For them, tech from the first war simply became obsolete over time. Scavengers like the Forgotten might still find something of value in there, though.

It's a false alarm. What browser are you using?

Thanks for the praise. No, I don't need to ask for assets from Retro. It's a great classic mod, but I think I can do better.

The sidebar icons that Retro uses are recreations of beta TS icons. While I used to appreciate that style in the past, I can see why Westwood made the change to a simpler style. In the beta icons, most units and buildings had a desert/wasteland background, which would look unfitting when you're playing in an arctic map. In addition, the object is often hard to tell apart from the detailed background.

Hi. Unfortunately I have no more information about TI's current state than you do. Given the lack of updates or communication, I think it's safe to assume it's in a hiatus.

Personally I think the turrets are good as-is. Maybe a little washed out, but so are all TS buildings. I have improved the firing & weapon VFX, though, which is not shown here.

Eventually I plan to do a pass over all the buildings and add more contrast/improve the lighting, but it's a big undertaking and a low priority for now.

Vinifera is not a mod. It's a work-in-progress engine extension for Tiberian Sun, providing quality-of-life improvements and new (optional) features for players and modders alike. It does not modify the gameplay or provide new content, however.

Rubicon uses Vinifera to achieve such features as superweapon timers, screen shake, cash-generating buildings, and more.

No, these are just eye-candy, at least for now.

So installing the .NET SDK fixed it?

EDIT: AFAIK you only need the .NET 7 or later desktop runtime, which is also included in the SDK. The client should prompt you about it in case it's missing, though.

Yes it does, I'm using Win 10 myself. Does it give you any error message?

Hey, thanks for the kind words. Yes, I will definitely work on the Firestorm campaign eventually, but it's probably going to take a while before I get there.

I hope to get an update or two out before the holidays.

If someone is willing to do the translation, then sure, we can add such an language option to the game.

Thanks for the praise.

Unfortunately, those features are impossible to implement, for now at least.

The closest TS has to an attack move is area guard (Ctrl+Alt), but you might also be interested in queue-move (Q-move), which allows any unit with a rotateable turret to fire at a target while on the move. Simply select the unit(s), click on a target, then hold Q and issue as many movement commands as you like. The unit(s) will then follow that path while firing at the target.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad to see that the mod gives such an impression, it's what we're aiming at.

More Tiberium life forms is definitely on the agenda. There's some interesting, unused TS concept art on the subject that we can draw inspiration from.

Did you download the "lite" build that was temporarily available? If so, it sounds like you haven't updated the game yet, or something went wrong in the update.

You can try going to the client Options -> Updater tab -> Force update.

You can also try going to the client Options menu and selecting the "Full Campaign Menu" option. This shows all the Act I missions, the rest of the acts are not yet available as they are unfinished in this demo. If you turn the option off, it should only list the two GDI and Nod campaigns, plus tutorial missions.

Yes, balance tweaks is one of the key features of Rubicon, but they are not too extensive. In other words, all the units and their abilities are still familiar and recognizable.

Unit statistics will be the same throughout campaign and multiplayer.

By "HK drones" you mean Hunter-Seekers? They are currently disabled altogether until I find proper use for them.

The Limpet Drone has been redesigned. It still functions as it used to, but in addition, it also scans a small area for cloaked and subterranean enemy units. It is also now exclusive to Nod, replacing the Mobile Sensor Vehicle which in turn is now exclusive to GDI.

However, these changes are not yet set in stone and they may altered or reverted in the future.

Funny thing. I don't remember intentionally taking inspiration from that map, but the similarity is indeed there. Having played Gen/ZH a lot back in the day must have subconsciously directed the map design. Either way, I take it as a compliment.

Component Towers are still in, however we're experimenting with a feature where the base tower itself is armed with a light machine gun, serving as a basic defense great for emergency situations. This weapon is then replaced by whatever the tower is upgraded with.

Yes to both. The mod is standalone, and it uses the same client with up-to-date features.

Unit statistics won't be affected by difficulty. Instead, on higher difficulties the AI will perform more aggressively and employ more/different attack patterns. You as the player may also receive less reinforcements or have more limited build options.

For example, the cyborgs you see here will only appear on hard difficulty. Even without dedicated anti-armor units at your disposal, you can still beat them with Light Infantry or Wolverines alone.

On the topic of difficulty, Rubicon's hard mode will be harder than vanilla Tib Sun's, to offer some fresh challenge to experienced TS players. Easy and medium modes will be more similar to vanilla TS experience.

Crimsonum - - 257 comments @ Preview: CABAL Recon Units

These units will replace the Nod buggy and bike for CABAL in the Firestorm campaign. CABAL will not be playable in multiplayer, but his legacy lives on in the form of a Nod splinter group that utilizes both CABAL and Nod technology. More on that will come later, so stay tuned.

Some, though there aren't that many that are viable. For example, we've already restored the Dropship Bay and the upgradeable Communication Center for GDI (replacing the Upgrade Center). The Dropship Bay acts as a special factory of sorts, you need it to produce Juggernauts and the Mammoth Mk. II as they're too big to fit into the regular Weapons Factory.

Yep, just look inside the speech .mix files and you'll find a ton of unused EVA, CABAL, and other voice responses.

Thanks! Revising the campaigns is definitely one of our main priorities and a passion for myself. Once you really dig into the game's internals, you'll find out just how incomplete the campaigns are. Lots of missing voice & text lines, cut mission elements, etc. For instance, around 50% of the voice lines recorded for the campaign went entirely unused, but fortunately they were shipped with the game so we can finally restore them.

I love maps with a clear visual theme and natural look to them. The stream of exposed soil is a nice touch. Good work.

If there's something I'd improve on, it's the top of the cliffs, which seem inaccessible and not meant to be built on. I'd break the flat terrain with hills and depressions.
