Week Three

Contagious_Game Blog

With all the game ideas completed, and with the structure of the game finished, it’s time to get our hands dirty and start making our first steps.


Since it’s a game in a near future our main character is going to have a futuristic suit on early stages, although, when he travels to a location, he needs to be at least barely disguised so it fits on the era he is on.

So, we are going to have at least four suits to our main camera, a futuristic one, and three more with some type of change with futuristic one being the base, nothing crucial, just to give a related piece of clothes from the respective area of the plague.

With all this set-up we already started doing the first sketches of the main character so we could have an idea of is shape and height (They will be added as soon as possible).

When it comes to programming, we also started the early stages. Nothing major so far, the walk and turn code have been created the simplest way possible so it doesn´t affect the gameplay with a heavy code.


Hopefully next week our sketches are finished so we can jump to the final concept and if so adding it to Unity to start messing with right body structure, helping a lot our programmers’ job.

Week Two

Finally, our group has been complete, and our game has started to get back on track, the game style and category of the game have been picked.

We decided that our game is going to be an 2D Vertical Platformer with a target audience between 18-24 years old.


History

Our begin phase of the game is played on a near future where epidemics have taken over the world, the main character works for a medical corporation but since the world is coming to an end, he is given a very important mission.

He needs to time travel back and try to erase the most known pandemics that ever existed, such as the Black Death, Smallpox and the Antonine Plague. And if so try to change the future he left behind and comeback to a brighter one.


Mechanics

The mechanics have been settled to, the main one is kind of a weird one, we decided that our main character is going to have auto-attack, interestingly enough this is not really a mechanic, but due to fact that the auto-attack exists our mechanic is the Dodge factor provided by this.

Our second mechanic is the continuous Jump system since it’s a vertical platformer, the player has not only to dodge is way up he has to jump from platform to platform until he reaches the top.


Enemies and other information

The enemies are going to be obviously virus shaped and the most realist possible in what it comes to format to give a realist approach to them. Some of them will shoot projectiles, other will just chase around until you killed them.

At the top of the level there will be a Boss, with a similar appearance to the virus the player encounter through the level. If the player decides to escape the virus on the level the Boss health will increase exponentially to the number of enemies not killed along the way.

There will be two weapons, one short ranged or melee, and one long ranged, the melee weapon is going to give more damage because of the enemies are closer to our character the difficulty is going to improve significantly.

On week one no work has been made in advance due to the fact of the lack of members on the group.


Some brainstorming was made between two of the existing members but no concrete ideas.
