I took a step back from gameplay for a few days in order to work on the user interface. I wanted to create something that had all the functionality of an expected user interface using bare bones amount of fancy graphics. Here is a first short and simple demo.

The demo uses no textures at all actually. Everything is created in my engine. I use FreeType, Freetype.org, to load glyph information and from that I create fonts in the engine. In order to keep the interface tidy I use color themes for diffuse and highlight colors as well as text. You see some variations in diffuse color in the demo. My goal with the user interface is to create a simple but powerful baseline upon which more fancy interfaces can be constructed.

During the coming days I plan to add more features and UI elements as well as adding custom cursors. I also plan to extend the usability of existing items by allowing the user to scale them. After that I hope to return to building some of the gameplay.
