Delete the file rgl_config.txt in your Documents\Mount&Blade Warband\ folder, then restart Warband and re-do your settings.

Brytenwalda is "just" a new map and a few new weapons? I don't think you've actually explored Brytenwalda much if that's the impression you have of it. There are a huge number of new gameplay features. (Oh, and SoD didn't do appear from scratch as quickly as you seem to think either. It was an original M&B mod.)

Regardless, as to Vikingr, one doesn't need a gimmick (guns) to improve the Warband multiplayer experience. Melee combat just feels better in Vikingr than it does in Native. Class restrictions and weapon balancing make it a more enjoyable experience. And it looks crisp as hell.
