Yep, I’ve now renamed the two downloads to make this a bit more clear.

Sounds like it could be your antivirus deleting it. See if disabling it or adding an exception for the exe helps

Hey, apologies I’ve only just noticed your comment. Have you tried both the steam and uplay version of the mod with your version of the game? Otherwise if you PM me your discord it might be possible to add support for your version. Cheers

Is this with the English version of the game? Does F3 work/crash as well? I’ve not had any crashes but here are a few thing you could try:
- Try with the Uplay version of the mod
- Pause your antivirus software if you have any
- Run the AC2 updater in program files
- Open/use the mod’s .CT file in Cheat Engine

Hey, which version of AC2 are you using? Have you tried both the Steam and Uplay versions of the mod?

A lot of antivirus software finds Cheat Engine-based mods suspicious, due to the way Cheat Engine works. If you’re unsure about running the .exe, you can download Cheat Engine from the official site and use the mod’s .CT file instead.

If it helps, I have the deluxe edition on Steam, which works with the mod. The “shadow res” values (1, 2 and “hovered”) are all changed at the same time to set the shadow resolution (to either 1024 or 4096).

Hi, yes it sounds like your game .exe isn’t compatible unfortunately. Where did you install it from? Have you tried both the Steam and Uplay versions of the mod? UK versions should work fine, but there might be differences between the deluxe and non-deluxe versions of the game. The “shadow res” entries in cheat engine are referring to the places in memory where the shadow resolution is kept, which the mod adjusts while the game is running.
Hope that helps!

Glad you like the mod! I think it may be possible to increase draw distances further still, given enough time/dedication - possibly something I’ll look at in the future.

As for using Cheat Engine, it’s quite hard to explain here but I’d recommend watching some tutorials on YouTube as a starting point. A lot of things can be done using just simple value changes, like the shadow resolution increase in this mod. Other things, like how this mod affects draw distances, might need programming skills.

Cheers!

Hi, did you install AC2 from Steam/Uplay? Have you tried both the steam and Uplay versions of the mod?

It sounds like you don't have the right version of AssassinsCreedIIGame.exe for this version of the mod. Try using the Steam version of the mod (AC2VFM_steam.zip), and if you're using the Uplay version of the game, also try running the AC2 updater at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed II\AssassinsCreedII.exe"

How are you installing the game? Downloading directly through Uplay/Ubisoft Connect? It might also be worth trying the Steam version of the mod (or game, while it's on sale).

The mod is only tested with two specific versions of the game's AssassinsCreedIIGame.exe, with these MD5 hashes:
- c9dbd17e2c7555ad3654e7b1dd978cdb
- 7d6b866eeacfc7a69a00f800a529bf8e

You can check the md5 hash of your game exe by running this command in command prompt:
certutil -hashfile "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed II\AssassinsCreedIIGame.exe" MD5

If your md5 doesn't match one of the above (ignoring spaces), that's likely why it's not working. It's possible the .exe file is different for different languages/regions, or the standard/deluxe edition. The ones above are for the English versions of the game.

Hey, whereabouts did you encounter that bug? I walked around Florence for a bit but couldn't see anything similar.

Hey.

Some antivirus software wrongly flags the mod's .exe due to the way Cheat Engine works (the software it's based on).

If you don't want to run the exe (understandable), an alternative is to download Cheat Engine from their official site and use the .CT file in the zip.

Cheers

My guess as to why the fabric disappears is that, at the highest-detail LOD level, the fabric isn't included as part of the hiding spot mesh, and instead is separate to allow for the fabric swinging/deformation effect. Simplest way to fix it would probably be to avoid the mod affecting the LOD levels of any those meshes (although I'm not sure how easy that'd be in practice).

Hey.

A lot of antivirus software will wrongly flag the mod's .exe file as malware due to the way Cheat Engine works (the software it's based on).

To get the mod working, you should just be able to launch the game (Uplay version), then launch the mod exe (also Uplay verion) and press F1/F2/F3.

If you press F3 and the text doesn't turn red in the menu (but for F1/F2 it does), it suggests you have the wrong version of the game installed. For the Uplay version of AC2, you need V1.01 - try running the updater at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed II\AssassinsCreedII.exe"

Cheers

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. An activation/deactivation noise sounds like a pretty useful feature, if I release an updated version I'll look into adding that. I think the key to extending draw distances further would be getting high-detail LODs to load from disk from further away - with enough time/effort I imagine that would probably be achievable with cheat engine, plus other things like fixing shadows not aligning between high/low resolutions, NPC LODs changing up-close etc.

Hey, glad you like the mod. The way it works is by forcing scenery etc. to draw at the highest LOD (level of detail) it has available. I think the reason more distant buildings still use lower LODs is that their higher LODs haven’t actually been loaded from the disk at that point, so that’s probably what would need looking into/modifying to extend distances further.

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, looks like some AVs flag up cheat engine based executables. Alternatively you can download cheat engine from their offical site and use the CT file in the zip.
