I think I figured out the problem. thank you so much for helping me through my utter cluelessness.

both the installer and the patch do no work, no matter what I do. My computer said that "the publisher of this program couldn't be verified". the type of file for both the installer and the patch is just called "file", not ".exe". I feel like I'm back to square 1... can you tell me what to? I've tried to zip up and unzip the files. I don't know if there's anything else I need to do...
