I'm afraid not. Compatching Birthright and fixing things up is a pretty huge and tedious task, so I've been putting it off. I did start working on a Forgotten Realms mod though with many of the same mechanics, so even if Birthright doesn't get updated any time soon, there will be an "heir" to it in the not-too-distant future with more updated mechanics.

This mod isn't dead, but I was severely demotivated by a hardcoded AI pathfinding crash that occurred on regular 10-30 year intervals. Paradox is re-working the AI pathfinding code for armies now, however, so I'm hopeful that I'll release an updated and stable version when the next CK2 DLC comes out - probably in a few month's time.

Yeah, sorry, the .mod file was messed up. Open it and delete all # in front of the lines.

A test version for Reaper's Due compatibility, not an official release, has been uploaded here:

Mediafire.com

Once I get feedback from testers at the CK 2 modding forum, I'll release a proper update here on moddb.

The crash is something that needs to be fixed by Paradox, other major mods are suffering from the same (it has to do with our provinces being not in order, which now causes crashes, but did not previously). They told us they fixed it and it would be out with the Reaper's Due DLC, but now it turns out they forgot/misplaced the fix, and they say it'll now be for the next patch.

The mod is not compatible with any other mods. That s the only thing I can think of, if as you say it s not an installation error.

I thought it was holy war CB too, but in fact the CTD can occur during any war. We have been in contact with the CK2 devs, and they found out it is related to an AI pathfinding bug due to our provinces skipping certain numbers. They say it will be fixed for the next patch, so though we have tried fixing it on our end with mixed success, I will wait for the new patch before I release a new version :)

Why does this make it unplayable? Have you tried playing vanilla for 146 years and looking at the size of the save game? I know at least that in the Warhammer mod save games are even at start around 50mb.

Yeah, it s really ******* me off this/these CTD/s. On the upside the version above IS a lot more stable, and you should be able to have long games with it. I'm kinda hoping at this point that it's a CK2 issue and that a new patch will fix some of this post-conclave mod instability. Birthright isn't the only total conversion mod to have them.

If you have a very good gaming PC, please let me know if you experience any CTDs in the version above, and how often. It may have something to do with the computer itself, and not the mod, the CTD - but I'm not sure. I know that in the Warhammer mod which I also work on I get CTDs but another guy with a better computer doesn't.

Everyone should download this version instead, as it is more stable:

Mediafire.com

I'm still working on some stuff, but I will only post a new official download here on moddb when I'm satisfied everything is 100% working. In the mean time, please use the version above (the mediafire link).

For testing purposes, mostly, here is a new version that has 2 major CTDs fixed, but there is still one very random one left (I think).

Mediafire.com

Once testing reveals this version is stable, I'll add some more content, fix some more bugs, and post the official release in the download section of this page.

The war thing is because some of hte barony-level temples are independent factions; Anuire goes a little crazy in the first few years as they launch their de jure wars, but in a way its nice to keep it that way since I *have* actually seen one of those temple-realms take over an entire duchy ;)

As for the elven thing, I'll look into it.

Also, there is a less CTD-prone version for testing here:

I fixed the main CTD, but I'm currently on vacation, so I probably won't be able to narrow down the remaining (less frequent and more random) one until next week or so. But it's definitely moving forward, progress on fixing all CTDs. If anyone has registered their game to the paradox forums, i posted the preliminary fix here:

This is not an official patch, and I'm not even sure how Alan9999 managed to upload it :) I'll leave it up though, for those who want to try it.

"Fix this annoying CTD, 20 years playing character later, it's CTD, and i reload gain and still CTD everytime."

Look at the post 3 below yours, I did mention there was a CTD and I was working on it ;) Unfortunately its very hard to fix, everything I've tried hasn't worked yet. But if you can't get past a certain date, temporarily remove the files in common/cb_types, get past the crash date, save, and then put the cb_types files back in. The CTD is related to wars somehow, and other major mods are having the same problem after the Conclave patch.

Also there is unfortunately a known crash related to the holy war CB - not sure why yet. I'll post a patch and/or a new version as soon as I have it narrowed down, but it'll most likely not be before next weekend.

"Well you have half true. It was installed right but i forgot to update game to 2.5.2 so thats why i had this problem. Game is still crashing time by time especialy when im in war but at least its playable and thats most important."

Yeah, I m sorry, there IS a CTD in this version related to the cb_types (particularly the religious_ cb used to take one provinces). I've been working on fixing it (no success yet, but soon, surely...) and I'll upload a patch or a new version when I find out what's wrong.

"Sadly its unplayable for me now because when i start game with any character after couple days lot of empty events show up. Because theyre empty and theres no button to click on, i cant delete them. I tried to reinstal mod i even tried to get rid of it throught console, it really dissapeared when i used console but after some some days it did showed up again. I think theres no proper way to fix this so only thing i can do is to wait for update which will fix this."

I'm 99% sure you installed it wrong; it should be in the documents/paradox/crusader kings II/mods folder, not the mod folder in the steam directory.

Conclave compatible version posted. Sorry, I forgot to "fix" the era selection screen, but just make sure you are in the 1524 date, and things should be fine.

Right now I'm working on fixing a very annoying CTD (or maybe there's more than one), but yes, if I don't get tired of CK2 modding from all this troubleshooting, I do plan to add a few more features. My main thing would be to finally do something about what happens when you reach 100 bloodscore, a mini-ascend-to-godhood type game where you can create your own religion and get other benefits. It all depends on how long I spend on fixing this CTD though.

Keep an eye on the paradox modding forum, I ll be releasing a test build for conclave there soon:

Forum.paradoxplaza.com

After some testing, I ll post it here on moddb as well, probably in a week or two.

I m not entirely sure what you mean :)

As for portraits, do you prefer the Middle Earth mod ones? We had those at first, but then switched to the Warhammer ones since I preferrred the more "wood elven" look of those, and Birthright elves are indeed wood elves, not high elves.

What do you mean the majority of elves are not elves? I m pretty sure they are... they also breed slowly, they get infertile after every child for something like 30-50 years, but after that they can get a second child.

As for elves dying from random events, I m technically ok with it, if not, there would be a huge overpopulation eventually which would slow the game down and courts would be too crowded.

I ll check again if new elves don't get the elf trait, but i m 99% sure they do on my version...

Glad you re enjoying the mod though! An update will be out in a week or two posted here, and sooner on the paradox modding forums for early testing.

I m working on compatching it now to Conclave, so it should be out in a week or two. Got it running, but I think I ll post a test-version on the paradox modding forums for a while first before posting it to moddb. I also have to fix all the bugs that were reported here and elsewhere since the last release :)

No mod is ever perfectly balanced, but you're right that making the Gorgon a rival of the Swordhawk is a bad idea for gameplay. That was done before having a rival got you a CB on that person - a lot of the mod was created before Charlemagne and Horselords DLCs came out, so back then, having lore-appropriate rivalries was no big deal.

That said, the mod is more or less in a "update for compatibility and new features only" mode now. None of the original modders, myself included, are really active anymore. But in the next update, I ll take a look at removing rivalries due to the new CBs.

The thing is, we weren't aiming for perfect balance, we were aiming for a faithful CK 2 representation of the Birthright D&D campaign setting. The Gorgon should be the most powerful single realm in the game, or close to it. He is certainly capable of beating the Swordhawk 100% of the time, but the risk is that if he loses too many armies, Anuireans or any other hostile neighbors of his might attack him on other fronts.

I've played the Gorgon a lot myself, and even the Dwarves of Baruk-Azhik have a habit of attacking and taking a county whenever I over-extend myself by for example attacking the elves too early and taking heavy casualties.

About the "Recover from maiming" decision - it requres that there is a master level priest of some kind around, usually the White Witch is one of the few at game-start. It seems you got unlucky, and there are no master-level priests around in your game. If there is not, then yes, the decision won't work.

It s very possible to make a french version, it's all done in the localisation files.

If you or anyone else does it, be sure to send me the files and I'll integrate them into the main mod :)

Sounds like he installed it wrong. Talk to him and be sure that it is installed in the same directory as yours is - ie, not in the steam directory, but in the documents, paradox, crusader kings II, mod folder.
